yes, that's the only thing I'm harping on that makes Jimmer similar to JJ. No. Their college careers, their game, their excellent shooting makes them similar.

    LCII,

Jimmer may look like redick while tyreke is running the show because he has to play a spot up shooter on the small chance that tyreke wants out of a shot.

It's a little narrow minded just to make the comparison to redick because they were scorers in college and are white. Redick is a great off the ball offensive player. He has high energy and finds open spots. He rarely is facilitating his own shot.

Jimmer's game in college was entirely different. He ran the point and with his range people started doubling him at half court. He was constantly splitting defenders and driving to the basket. On top of that he regularly caused separation off his defender with dribbling to knock down a quick, deep three.

The main difference between the two players is they play different positions. You look at a small sample size from his professional career and equate that as he is this certain type of player. It seems a little foolish to label him with the ceiling of redick.

With the talent around him in college and what was asked of him, he has a game closer to curry than redick.

The JJ-Jimmer comparisons aren't bad, but they aren't really similar players. Where I think they're sort of similar is that I don't expect Jimmer's impact to be much greater than JJ's. A realistic ceiling is probably a bench guy on a good team or maybe a marginal starter on a bad one.

    mylilpony,

I have watched TONS of Jimmer's college highlights - the ones where he scores 30-50 points against opposing teams - and I have never seen him split defenders. His slashing ability is decent, but nothing to write home about. The majority of his points are from deep threes. As for seperation from defenders with a few dribbles, JJ Redick does that all the time, heck, a lot of shooters can do that, so I dont see what's special.

And, based on how much SG duties Jimmer took on in college, I'm not sure he ever developed the PG aspect of his game. So I will stick by my opinion that based on the similar trajectory of their college careers and abilities, Jimmer will be a backup combo guard like Redick.

I agree, he does a lot of really subtle stuff to make up for his lack of size. His move where he looks like he's going to drive and then he pulls up for the 3pointer is tough to read.

Once painful memories are now fond memories of a legend. It looks like Jimmer might have what it takes to create shots, but if he learns to move w/o the ball like Reggie, he'll be really tough to guard.

i have watched his game for four years since my family's alma mater is byu. He plays like a scoring point. his game honestly reminded me of curry mixed with lowry. He can move without the ball like redick and find open spots, but the last two years at college he was most successful running the offense.

i see that sacramento will have a problem because they have 3 guards that can put up points, but jimmer probably has the better passing vision. But being a rookie, he will have to play second fiddle to tyreke. Eventually he will be a decent point guard.

Sorry to mention it here, but what do you guys think is his ceiling?
--Jason Terry? Ben Gordon? J.J. Redick or J.J. Barea?

I think he be like J.J. Redick and possibly making into the 2nd round of the playoffs while playing with the Kings...

As a fan of his college games, I don't see him being a star in the NBA, at least not with the Kings.

They just fired their coach so hopefully the new guy can do something with their lineup, but they really have a bunch of selfish blackholes and knuckleheads. It is an extremely poorly constructed team. Evans and Cousins are major talents, but no one is there to cultivate them. Maybe they should get John Calipari or someone who knows how to get them to play hard and unselfish.

As for Jimmer, he shouldn't have been drafted by the Kings. The Suns, the Jazz or the Spurs would have been much better fit.

literally, if Redick and Jimmer weren't both white and had similar profiles, NO one would be comparing their games. Jimmer is definitely more of a drible and create scoring PG more like Curry, Barea or along that like. He can drive to the hoop, finish in crafty paint, and is strong enough to take body contact. He is famous for his range, watch his college high lights, he has a nice crossover, hesistation ,and can break people off the dribble. He is a scorer first that is why he is more of a sg, but he can pass and create and his dribble/height allows him to comfortably be a pg in this league like stephen curry.

Redick was an off ball shooter. He mastered timing in pump faking and when to use momentum of his off ball to get another shot or a jumper after a few dribbles. He definitely was not a finisher or a big guy to drive to the hoop and break people off dribbles. The only thing in common they have is their profiles and they are pure shooters, there games are entirely different.
