If we did trade Kmart and Scola for D12, and then he wouldnt re-resign.... Man would we have some capspace next offseason! lol
That's what I am saying so what if he leaves. We have his bird right so if he wants that extra year he has to stay with us. If he leaves out right we have a massive amount of cap space to either absorb a big all ready existing contract or we can go after another free agent. So best case we resign him and we are a contender Worse case he leaves us and he have massive cap space and are in rebuild mode. Either we are taking positive steps toward winning a championship.
We should get Dwight because even if he chooses not to resign with us the only way he can get all the money he wants is by signing with the rockets. Worst case scenario is that he doesn't want to resign so we go ahead and ship him off in a sign and trade.
Under the new CBA sign and trades are still allowed for the next 2 years by all teams but the catch is you can't get Max raises and years. I Doubt a sign and trade would happen unless the team that he wants to go to does not have the cap space to sign him out right but is willing to give up assets that the rockets want to entice us to facilitate the sign and trade. If a team has the cap space there is on real incentive for a player to do a sign and trade in the new cba.
Dwight and Dwill aren't going to make it to S&T. One of them is going to tell their team, they are going to opt out if they aren't traded. Then Orlando or NJ or both is going to be forced to trade their player or watch him walk away for nothing. Now, they could play a game of chicken but I don't think the players are going to let them get away with it. The teams could decide to let the player exercise the opt out with the idea being that they can still S&T them or convince them to re-sign with them. However, all it will take is one player walking away leaving them holding the bag and no teams will decide to play it that way again.
Morey is not too good at pouncing. I hope he more like prances around the subject and then suddenly and out of nowhere...... Jumps right onto another and gets the deal done real fast before anyone else knows. It just sounds like everyone trying to get us to help the Lakers get all the stars in the league. F##k that and F##k them!
Isn't there a mini trade deadline coming up in a couple of days? I thought under the new CBA, a player had to be with the same team for six months to qualify for a five-year home team deal with 7.5% raises (i.e. $100 million over 5 years instead of $74 million over four years)? If so, that would put a mini trade deadline at January 1st, as six months before free agency begins on July 1st? If so, then after January 1st, the team acquiring Howard has no more leverage than a team with cap space to keep him. Unless, perhaps, Howard can wait until sometime after July 1st to assert his opt out, giving more time for the six month window to pass after the trade?
Report: Magic to listen to all Howard offers "The Magic will listen to any team making a trade inquiry for Dwight Howard. Orlando isn't just talking to Howard's preferred teams, and is investigating the possibility of those teams that may be willing to facilitate a Rent-A-Dwight trade. We don't expect a deal soon, but it's clear the Magic will explore every opportunity before pulling the trigger on anything." http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orlando-magic/os-magic-schmitz-nets-1230-20111229,0,6537389,full.column
....as mentioned earlier, the Rocket's stood to gain Gasol AND enough financial savings to sign Nene in that trade. Gasol alone was not the Rocket's plan - it was Gasol and Nene. With the FA period mostly over(none of the players coming back from China are game changers), the financial savings in dumping Scola/Martin/Dragic for Gasol is now a moot point because Gasol alone isn't going to make Houston any better. In other words, we aren't facilitating getting Dwight to LA...but to the original point - Houston could make a play at Dwight, agree to take Turkuglu's contract and use their amnesty on Hedo afterwards. It's not ideal for Orlando, but what better options are they going to get aside from losing him for nothing? They get two established veterans and Dragic for losing Dwight(going to leave anyway) and Hedo's killer contract. It would free up 8 mil on the Magic payroll which saves them 16 mil with luxury tax included. The only other offer that would work for them is Bynum for Dwight which would give them a 1 for 1 swap and save them about 7 million including luxury tax payment. What other offers are out there that would work? Here is the important thing to note: ....when I look at the NBA landscape for bad contracts, there are few teams that have multiple contracts they would like to wipe off the books but Orlando is one of them if Dwight is as good as gone. If Orlando is going to lose their "star", why be insanely over the cap? It seems like Houston can take the advantage of having an amnesty clause they don't really "need" which means being able to absorb more bloated contracts is another thing they can use to their advantage as a trade partner. LA has an amnesty to use as well, but they have nothing else valuable to offer on the roster aside from Gasol which would again add to Orlando's tax implication.
They should take him as is, and not worry about him re-signing here.......give it a go, and hope he likes it here. Keep CLee (his best friend) trade KMart so that CLee and him get to start, and hope he loves it. Our roster is overcrowded anyway, we could lose 3 players and still be the same. DD
Take the risk, get Dwight for yourself if you can. ----------------------- [rquoter]The Nets are off to a pretty horrific start. Is there a point where this becomes a concern for Dwight Howard as he evaluates suitors, and does this only strengthen the likelihood of him ending up in L.A. as you forecasted? Ken Berger: Well, yes and no. It's faulty logic to look at the Nets and shake your head in disbelief that Dwight would want to play for THAT team. That's not the team Dwight would be playing for; he'd be playing for a Nets team with HIM on it. Big difference. The most interesting aspect of the Dwight saga won't be where he does and doesn't want to play, but where the Magic are and aren't willing to trade him. If Otis Smith and Alex Martins decide they want Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, the likelihood that Dwight's a Laker goes through the roof. If that can't or won't happen, can the Nets flip some of their assets for win-now players Orlando would want, i.e., Luis Scola and Kevin Martin from the Rockets, or something similar? Fascinating chess match that Orlando will be playing.[/rquoter]
