So he mentions getting another big and doesn't mention Scola's name in his interview, but notice he says something about every other player. coincidence? hmmmmm
The ink is not dry and there has yet to be a physical so I think that's why Morey is being coy at the moment
dalember is a short term solution. if you look at his career, he is a little bit better than average players at his position.
I did not hear the interview only read the recap. But from what I read it seems that Morey was talking about what players need to improve on our how they needed to step their game up. Scola has reached his potential, he is what he is which is a top 10 power forward who will give you 18 and 8 every night if given at least 30 minutes a game. He is by far our most consistent player. So there really is not much to say about Scola that everyone does not all ready know.
I don't think he's even allowed to comment about Dalembert directly until he's under contract, which hasn't happened yet barring his physical today. So, I'm assuming his comments are hinting at him.
What opticon and mogrod said. Morey not allowed to comment on Dalembert yet. Yes, that is about Dalembert.
Dalembert and Scola for Bosh ....But seriously the Heat would be unstoppable if they had those 2 instead of Bosh.
Spoiler http://houston.cbslocal.com/2011/12/29/morey-dalembert-is-playing-better-than-anticipated/ http://houston.cbslocal.com/?podcas...=true&config_file=config.xml&dcid=CBS.HOUSTON Good morning Daryl, how is it going today? 'Morning Marc, John. Quick thoughts on some things you liked and some things you want to see changed as soon as possible? I think we've been mostly focusing on defense. We had 20-25 defensive breakdowns that probably lost us the game. I thought that was the main thing that we needed to work on. Obviously Kevin Martin has an off game but we're confident he'll bounce back. He's a pro that has done it for a long time. On the positive side: I thought Kyle Lowry gave us some solid minutes. They're a tough team. They sorta take you out of your game. They're a tough team to run on and thats sorta where we get a lot of our offense and our flow. On the positive side: I thought Terrence Williams, Courtney Lee off the bench gave us solid minutes. I thought Jordan Hill showed, with Dalembert getting mixed in, and when we get Patterson back, with Scola, that could be a solid bigs rotation. There were some things to build on but a disappointing loss. A lot of half court sets. That will be the theme I guess huh? No, no. That was an Orlando thing. That's what I was trying to explain. They, literally, don't send anyone to the offensive glass except Dwight a little bit. We had more transition opportunities against them on Monday than we did against them last year. They just really shut down transition and take us out of our offensive game. Obviously you gotta get defensive stops too and that triggers that offensive game but the fact that they get back so rigorously, thats something we have to overcome. They're not the only team to do that, so we have to fight through it better. That was one thing that happened. Our transition game was taken away. More on Dalembert here. Not a bad start. He came in and played much better than anyone anticipated. Knew the plays a little only because he's a pro and had played against us and somewhat knew our sets. Mostly didnt know the plays and was effective. People can see how much he will give us this year in our playoff hunt here. Terrence Williams, it must be nice to see him get meaningful minutes and see how he can really develop as a Rocket. Last year, obviously he didnt get to play a whole lot because Rick Adelman handled things a certain way with his veterans. Yeah, Terrence last year, that was more on Terrence than Coach Adelman. Terrence, maybe he could have gotten more opportunites, but really, really, it's this year, Terrence came in with a great approach with a new coaching staff and has shown that he deserves some time where as last year, I'm not sure that he did. For this year, he has shown that he might be able to help us. He got probably the highest upside of maybe anybody on the team. Hopefully he can help us and as long as he can, he'll get out there. If he can't help us win, then he wont. So far, so good. We're excited that he might be able to contribute. Looking at this team, a work in progress, a lot of people say that but it really is in this case. There are so many positions that can be in transition. Yeah. A lot of different choices. It was tough for Coach Adelman, and is tough for Coach McHale. We got a lot of quality players off the bench. Mixing and matching isnt straight forward. It will depend on matchups and who is playing well. We got a deep roster. It can be an advantage with a compressed schedule. We'll be a team that is a work in progress as you say. [Caller]: Mr. Morey, you answered my question about Kevin Martin and his shooting slump. Do you fully expect him not to present that today, knowing that Manu is shooting lights out right about now. Is that correct? I dont think you can call it a slump. It was only one game. It was a tough game for him but every player wont play good every game. We know he is a pro and he'll be fine. [Caller]: My other question, can you envision Dalembert and Hill playing the four on the court at the same time, to maybe shore up our D since Scola has some defensive liabilities? I think our strongest defensive lineup at the big would be Dalembert and Patterson. Hill is improving but Patrick last year came in and was very solid defensively. I think having Dalembert and Patrick back will allow us to pair them with Scola. Scola plays hard on D but physically, he is not a shotblocker and things like that. Pairing him with either Patterson or Dalembert, we like as a rotation. You touched on Kevin Martin's game. These guys are human beings. How much of the trade that wasnt an after effect? Hard to know. Nobody can know for sure. I think he has handled it well. I think he'll be fine. Nobody knows for sure though. Wasn't a great situation for the organization or the league. We talked about Terrence Williams. Chase obviously didnt have a great night shooting the ball but when you look at the minutes of these guys through one game, so what can we really judge here? Do you see mixing and matching the lineup there or will that depend on match-ups and that sorta thing? I think it's early to talk about that. We played very effectively with this starting lineup last year with Hayes at the five. So Jordan and Sam will probably be what we mix and match early to see who gets that starting spot at the five. I think Mixing and matching the rest of the lineup, obviously the coaches will do whatever gives us the best chance for us to win, but I'd think they'd evaluate, see where we're at, given how effective that group was for awhile. Whatever isnt working, we'll have to address. What do you make of the Spurs after beating the Clippers last night? Absolutely they have another run in them. I was talking to JVG and I agree with him. They're being written off. They were the 2nd best team in the league last year in the regular season. Just like the year when we made the 2nd year and matched up well with Portland, Memphis didnt match up well with SA. SA could've easily been the team that made a run to the finals if they get by that bad matchup. They got some young players improving. They do a good job, hopefully like we do, of mixing and matching young guys into their rotation. I think they'll be a solid team this year. Unfortunately for us tonight. Still working the trade front? Can't talk about other teams players. Obviously we're always looking to upgrade the team. Most of the league right now, the rosters are set. They're waiting for the news of how things will work, relative to their plans. Not a lot of trade opportunites at this time. First time it really opens up is maybe 3-5 weeks in when injuries happen. No team cares about helping us, so trades get trigged by other teams sorta saying "Hey, I want to get something done.". Is Kyle Lowry still an under the radar PG in this league? I think he's got another level in him. Played terrfic last year. He works hard on his game. I would say Kyle got another level. We need someone to take a step forward like Kyle did last year. Kevin if he can keep improving on D can improve another level. Courtney and Chase potentially have another level as well. At the bigs, Patrick and Jordan could really surprise us. And then we got some bench players that you never know. Last year, Patterson came in and surprised us. Here, it could Marcus Morris or Parsons. That probably wont be early because its hard to break into our rotation but you never know down the road. In back to back to back situation, how do you think Kevin handles minutes or do you just play the game and take it game by game? With back to back to back, and having the hardest schedule through 10 games, anytime we can get a win in these 10 games, we're gonna do it and not worry about resting anyone or anything like that. We need to get out of these first 10 games with....even 3 wins might be ok. 4-6 wins would be a great resolve and mean we're on pace for the playoffs. We need to eek out wins in these first 10. It will be a tough go. I think it will be good, because we're not going to fool ourselves that we're any good and we'll get a lot of stuff to work on. We need to really get through the first 10, then hopefully turn it on, and then get in the playoff hunt and thats the next stretch after that. When there are minutes that will be saved, it gives other guys a chance. You will find out a lot about some of these young guys because there is nothing like playing in a real game. Yeah. Absolutely. We got a lot of depth. Hopefully it will help us in this situation. A guy like Chandler Parsons is really really impressing the coaches in practice. Who knows if he'll get out there given how deep we are but if he does, if we take an injury, or someone is very tired or having an ineffective game, he is a guy who could slide in and play 3 minutes or play 4 in small lineups that I think the fans would be interested in seeing. Same for Marcus Morris.
I'm glad Morey's numbers support what I see on the court. The only thing I don't agree is Bud's ability to take te next step. I just don't see him having the mental makeup to do it. He hasn't improved since his freshman at Arizona
http://houston.cbslocal.com/2011/12/29/morey-dalembert-is-playing-better-than-anticipated/ never mind, there it is
Morey always extrapolates out based upon the expectations of other teams. I think if we get 4 wins out of the first 10 the team will be doing pretty well. Now 1 or 2 wins and uh......high draft pick here we come. DD
