    The Adventures of Tintin 3D(2011)

    (RealD 3D review)

As a fan of the cartoon series when I was growing up, I looked forward to this movie. Spielberg did an incredible adaptation of Hergé's work, although I was somewhat worried about how he would transform the ligne claire into motion capture like Polar Express (2004). I had nothing to worry about, the movie looks great.

This was a fun comedy/action adventure with loads of slapstick mixed with subtle humour. Definitely see it in 3D for the Morocco chase sequence. There were some moments that dragged and by the end it felt like there were one too many action scenes. However, the visual beauty of the movie bumps this from 7.5 to 8.0.

Anyone see this in IMAX 3D? I wonder how different the experience is versus Real D? Apparently it was huge in Avatar. I wish Edwards Marq-E were playing this on their real IMAX screen instead of Mission Impossible only. Unfortunately, the closest real IMAX screen that's playing this movie in IMAX 3D is the Santikos Silverado in Tomball.

I'll be honest and say that Fincher is the main reason I wanted to see this and it didn't disappoint. His ability to create a good flow throughout a movie with no boring/slow spots is unrivaled.

I definitely agree with your review. I rate a movie based on whether I would enjoy watching it again, and I def. feel that way about this movie. However, I really hope that Spielberg continues by bringing the entire franchise onto the screen. I would hate to see it end there.

    Conan the Barbarian - 0/10

Couldn't get halfway through it. I just couldn't take it. Skipped to the end, the bad guy and the daughter dies, conan and his gf lives. father avenged. There you have it, I hope no one will waste a minute on this movie ever. I hope everyone related to that movie dies a painful death (except for Hellboy, he's ok). What a POS movie.

    Tintin

Coming from someone who only knew of the character, it was a fun film. The motion capture was amazing. Nice balance of comedy and action. It was basically Indiana Jones light. And that's where it succeeds and fails. It was a great adventure, but I felt it wasn't as epic as it should be and I never could connect emotionally to the characters. The captain yes, but not Tintin.

Friends With Benefits - 6/10 - Better than I thought it would be honestly. It's a RomCom so you can't go in expecting too much and of course the whole story is cliche and predictable. But along the way there are some pretty good laughs. It probably isn't honestly a real 6/10, but it got bonus points for far exceeding my expections.

Fright Night - 7/10 - Again, it exceeded my expections and I thought it was actually pretty good. The story is pretty basic, but the action is pretty good. Not the best action/thriller movie I have ever seen, but pretty enjoyable.

The Decendants - 6/10 - Unlike the others, this movie underwhelmed me. Don't get me wrong, George Clooney was amazing in it and I wouldn't be surprised if he wins best actor for it. But, the story itself is a little slow (although that is par for the course for this kind of movie). Just know it is a pretty depressing movie. I did like all the scenes of Hawaii and found the acting to be solid from all the cast members (except Matthew Lillard who is pretty much terrible in everything he does), but the story was just a little slow for my taste. That being said, I'm sure those who like character driven, slice of life style movies will love this.

MI GP: 8.25/10 Went to see it in IMAX and wow, what an awesome action movie, would definitely recommend it and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. When I heard
    Russian nuclear codes
, I started to get disappoined, but the movie delivered...

Dolphin Tail: 7.5/10 Pretty cute flick and the kids enjoyed it.

Tintin 8.5/10 I was a little worry going in but it surpasses my expectation. Kudos goes to Spielberg and Peter Jackson for bringing Tintin to life. The character design and animation are just outstanding. I can't believe right in front of my eyes I'm seeing Tintin and the world that was meant by Herge brought to life to perfection. Definitely my favorite movie of the year.

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol 7.5/10 Probably the best of the series but pretty weak ending. Another unoriginal nuclear crisis that's been done to death. Looks pretty good on IMAX.

    BEING ELMO: 8/10

This is a documentary about Kevin Clash, the man perpetually fisting poor Elmo -- why in the world wasn't that the tagline?! Anyway, I love Sesame Street/Muppet stuff as much as the next guy, and this is a great story about a young puppeteer working his way into the Muppet world and finding success, following his dreams, etc. Totally enjoyable.

If you're at all interested, it's only playing at the Museum of Fine Arts (Houston) this week only. It's only $6 too! The movie is by nature sorta kid-friendly -- there were some kiddos in the packed theater -- but it's not really for them.

    500 Days of Summer - 10/10

Probably won't score that high, but many scenes and events in that movie really hit home with me. Took me on an emotional roller coaster because it was like I was watching a movie about a past ex. Bad movie to watch with the gf.

It is a cool day in the DD household a good friend of mine who votes for the Oscars dropped off a bunch of screening copies of films.

He knows we have kids so we will be watching in the comfort of our home:

    TinTin
    Hugo
    Puss n Boots
    Tinker Tailor....

And will get more later...I love this time of year....
