Hypothetically speaking would you do a Lowry/Patterson + 1 or 2 first rounders for DWill? I think i'd be tempted to make that move.
I don't know if I'm alone in this. Lowry won't get us on TV, and no matter how well he plays, probably won't be an All Star; but throwing him into a deal and leaving us with second-tier point guards, well, we tried that in the past (bye bye Sam, hello Chuck) and, well.... Lowry's busting out in a big way. Scola, Martin, any point guard not named Lowry....to get Pau. Martin/Scola/Bynum/Flynn?/NY #1 (they'd squeeze it from us) to Orlando Howard and Turkeyglue to Lakers Gasol and Redick (TE) to Houston Dwight? He's only on our radar if we include Dalembert, which means trade deadline. I don't know if the Magic should sit on that drama so long. Gasol was in our sights before, and Dalembert showed he might not suck as our primary 5. We do have a nice TE to help us fill our roster as needed. CLee + Twill might hold down the fort nicely at the 2. Then again, the TE could absorb, say, JJ Redick. Face it: Martin is still looking over his shoulder anyway, and he isn't in our plans. He knows it. EDIT: Jeez, I just proposed the same stuff that's in half the posts here. Ugh.
The whole point of the previous trade was to get the necessary cap space to sign Nene/Hayes with... what is the point of the trade now though? Getting cap space and going after Deron would be the only thing that makes sense..
I'd be the 1st (and probably only) person at Toyota Center with a new JJ Redick jersey on if he came here. Yeah, I'm extra biased towards my boy JJ, I don't care.
Yes, if we already had Dwight. NJ won't do the deal our any deal for DWill at the moment. They will only trade DWill if they are going to lose him for nothing.
The only way we get Dwight is to solidly get to the playoffs this year and convince Dwight that he would join a playoff team that wouldn't lose anyone important to sign him. I think that is what Morey is trying to do. Dwight/Hill Scola/Patterson Twill/Cbud/Morris Martin/Lee Lowry/Dragic
how would we create enough cap space for max offer to dwight? we would have to bank on orl not dealing him until summer and howard insisting he comes here. It would be the same deal that clev got for james in massive t.e. And multiple 1st round picks. ironically our team was perfectly built around a franchise center.
I actually think Patterson, Lowry and Motiejunas are the best we have in talents untapped. Hill being a close second.
Maybe dump Scola to the Lakers at the deadline for their Odom trade exception and a pick, if it appears that Orlando won't trade Dwight.
We only have 30 million committed to Scola, Martin, Lowry, and Morris for next year. We could easily offer Howard a max contract, and pick the options on the other guys on rookie contracts. The hardest part would probably resigning Lee.
Those stars all cry their way out to get into a better team to join forces with another star. bunch of cry babies
The whole key to winning over Dwight and DWill is to get one of them here this season. That's most likely going to be Dwight. If we can get him here this season, we can give him the max extension and still have the cap space to sign DWill outright, thereby forcing NJ to trade him to us where we can give him a max extension also. Ideally that's what these guys want, to be on the same team, with max extensions, on a team that is going to compete for a championship.
If you can get Dwill here with CLee as the backcourt and keep some younger players, you might have a decent shot at DHoward. Then, Morey would be a DOER and not a talker. DD
Seriously? As Ralphie would say, "Fuuuuuudge." EDIT: Wait; he was signed to two years. That would exclude the use of the TE wouldn't it? We had the cap space anyway.
