Tank for a superstar! It's easy and GUARANTEED!!
Step 1: Tank REALLY HARD. As in, last-place-in-the-entire-league hard. Gotta maximize your chances. Step 2: Pray that the ping pong ball falls in your favor and you get the #1 pick. Step 3: Pray that you're picking #1 in a year when there's a clear franchise player who declares for the draft. Step 4: Pray that you pick the RIGHT "clear franchise player" (see: Bargnani, Oden, Bogut, Kwame Brown, Kenyan Martin, Michael Olowokandi, Glenn Robinson, Joe Smith, Pervis Ellison, etc.) Step 5: Pray that you still have enough "assets" to surround your new franchise guy with the talent he needs (see: Kevin Garnett) Step 6: Pray that your franchise player won't bolt for greener pastures the first chance he gets.
Tank for a superstar! It's THAT EASY!!

Who said anything about tanking for a new face of the franchise? Is Derrick Favors a franchise player? He was a top 5 pick, and he, along with other picks, got Deron Williams for the Nets.
Cause the Nets have such a great supporting cast around D-Will . You think the Nets would have a remote chance at landing Dwight if Deron wasn't there? Superstars: Nets-1 Rockets- Home of the borderline all-stars.
Bro if you would just take my nuts out of your mouth for just one quick moment then you would understand my point. The team we currently have is very deep and talented, but i personally do not like McHale`s offensive schemes (Although I think he will help us play better overall team defense) thats all dude, let the tea-bagging commence.
Exactly. If we used that logic, the great Rick Adelman would be jobless right now. McHale lost 1 game, but Adelman's team is 0-2. The sky is falling!!!
it's not that easy, obviously. but what are the other options? more reshuffling the deck with lateral moves? how many years of that do we need to do? the 2012 draft class looks to be very deep. there's no sure thing, of course. but it's not like there are other options available to us that provide a sure thing. hell, Morey, himself said it would be a lot easier to rebuild if we were allowed to lose.
Agree. Even if the rox get somewhat good with coaching/practice, hustle and overacheiving on court-play, when it comes to grinding out a win in the 4Q against superior teams/players - the rox will get exposed and will NOT get the benefit of the doubt as far as officiating. Here's to not being good enough and not being bad enough!!!!!!
The OP, flippedfk, and Jerome Solomon should all go in a corner and screw each other repeatedly while we Rockets fans cheer our team on.
I would've disagreed a couple of weeks ago, but with their biggest trading chip injured (Lopez), I agree with this now. It seemed like a great trade for the Nets, but now it may blow up in their faces. I was using D-Will as an example to show that top picks are valuable, even if unproven.
Are you kidding!? The guy spends money to compete, hires good people, makes changes when things aren't working but doesn't meddle...he is a great owner. Still, as a big believer in class warfare, I'd like to see his blood run in the streets... but as an NBA owner, the guy is solid.
Not sure how you can say he doesn't meddle. He's the one giving the directive saying they must be competitive while rebuilding. Morey's the one saying rebuilding is easier when you really rebuild, which involves some losing. Morey has his marching orders despite what he thinks is the easier way.
Les Alexander is one of the best owners in the NBA. The fact that he doesn`t want to tank like so many other people on this board makes me like him even more. How can you call yourselves rockets fans but root for them to lose? How does that eve make sense? So if you have tickets for a game, you sit in your seats wearing Rockets gear but cheer for the other team?
game to game i root for them to win. it's just easy for me to find a silver lining when they lose now. i've been a season ticket holder...i was at both championship games..both parades...4th generation Houstonian who loves to see the Rockets be great. they haven't been great in a very, very long time. losing big netted them olajuwon. it netted them sampson. clearly playing the FA game isn't working for us...we need something to build around. we're a team of role players built around nothing right now. i want us to win, but i'm not so blind to think we're a contender with this bunch. i'm ready for them to be a contender again, and it's gonna take a high draft pick to get that player to build around, i think.
It's interesting to see how people react to losing. I don't like to see my favorite team lose, but I try to look at things with the glass half full. We know what we have in Kevin Martin and Luis Scola. As much as I like those guys as players, it just won't work long term. If they get traded, I hope Scola goes to a contender. When I say I want the team to tank, I don't mean turn the ball over every other possession, or stink up the place. I simply want to see the young guys get plenty of minutes, learn from their mistakes, and see how they develop. That should net quite a few losses, and get the Rockets a top 10 pick. But with Les refusing to go that route, we have to stick to being mediocre/competitive and hope Morey finally pulls of the trade he's been after for so long.
#1 There was no controlling the health of TMac and Yao. It is bad luck to lose two top 10 players just entering their prime. There is nothing we can do about this. #2 You and others act as if Houston is New Orleans. Houston is a large market team, only a few teams are larger. In the past Houston has been a very attractive place for players. Hell, many of them live in Houston. The issue is that Houston lacks a top 5 player to build around. #3 The Rockets have a very bright GM, and innovative front office. The issue is that Les Alexander has thus far refused to completely rebuild. Unless you are NY or LA, it is very hard to get an elite free agent to sign unless you have another superstar in place. #4 Yes... I would say it is a frustrating situation, however remember, the Rockets almost had Gasol and Nene. Therefore, even if Les does not allow the Rockets to "tank", there is a real chance the Rockets could be in a position to compete at a high level. #5 Based on what I saw in game 1, I think it is very possible the Rockets will have no choice but to get a high draft choice. Martin does not seem comfortable in Houston, and Lowery and Scola are not enough.
The starter of the thread is right we need an all star player to run our offense through and to close out games. Then and only then we will finally have an identity.
No, I'm Solid, and I am not Les. Given the same resources, I bet I could win a championship sooner than he does. First I would never have drafted Yao. Loved the guy, but he suffered from Giantism with predictable health problems. TMac's back problems were well known and he was a huge risk. Then, once it was obvious a failed approach, Les would not give it up; big mistake. etc. etc.
