Even if Adelman were still here, there was no way he'd have kept doing the same thing with this new group. Hayes, Patterson, Miller out. Dalembert, TWill, Hill in. You can't run Adelman's offense without Hayes and Miller in the high post.

No summer workouts or summer league for the young players, hardly no training camp/preseason, and we're 1 game in. Don't you think its a little unfair to compare McHale's offense to Adelman's offense at this stage? And its not like Adelman instantly transformed our offense either. It took more than a season for the Rockets to look comfortable running it.

Sample is too small for analysis; not an impressive start to be sure. McHale is a great talker; I can see why be blew away Les and Morey. But can he coach? After about ten games we will have a larger sample of work. After watching Cole with the Heat last night I was jealous. Why can't one of our newbies look like that? They don't need players like him, we do.

No genius............we have one game and two preseason games to compare McHale's "inferior" offense to Adelman's. I remember other Genius's like yourself wanting to ax Adelman in his first week due to how his system would not work with our players. By the end of the year, those people did not have much to say. All I am saying is he is trying to mix in some of his own stuff into Adelman's offense which is a hybrid of the two. There is no baseline you can use to compare against any offense either has run in the past since it is a hybrid of the two. You have one game to base an opinion off of in which our best shooter made one more shot than you made intelligent points in your initial post or your rebuttal!! 15 games from now, revisit this same conversation. To be honest, I am more concerned with the defense.

Players make offenses, not coaches. That's why Adelman, specifically mandated to play "more Phoenix like" became a half-court plodder when he first started with the Rockets, since his players were based around a 7-6 plodder.

Actually, aside from Martin missing a bunch of open looks, the offense looked pretty good. I love what I saw from Lowry, and our assist-to-turnover and assist-to-basket ratios were really high (as in, if we keep this up we could lead the league high).

The problem was really on defense and on missed open shots, with the bulk of the blame for each I think safely resting on the shoulders of Kevin Martin.

I agree, Adelman was great at matching his players talents and build a system that works around that.

Let's see if McHale can do the same.

Yeah, im sure rick adleman had nothing to do with the offense in Sacramento either. Nothing at all to do with an offense last year ( and the previous year ) with no all star talent and two positions devoid of any offensive threat being among the most efficient and potent offenses in the NBA.

Rick Adelman's magic Sacramento offense, when it was staffed by Yao Ming and Rafer Alston - ended up looking a lot like Jeff Van Gundy's offense.

Why do you think that was?

Well no **** it looked similar ( even though it wasn't the same ). The rockets had two superstars and the defensive personnel to make them elite. You shape your team around your players. That doesn't mean coaching doesn't have a large part to do with it. And that doesn't make that particular offense better than it was recently.

You're an idiot if you think he doesn't have an impact ( and a large one ) on a teaks offense. Did you just choose to forget the last few years few of basketball. Even when they made it to the second round, that offense was closer to adelmans offense than anything else, and that was with Yao.

    umm, guess again.

They finished 19th out of 30 teams in the league in pace that year. That's compared to 21st the year before that (Adelman) and 21st the prior year (Van Gundy).

The next year yao was gone and they moved up to 6th, and last year they were 8th.

    Want to re-phrase your argument?

    Agreed.

Not only is it just 1 game, it was our first game of the season. Still waiting to get PPat back who I really believe is going to be our biggest impact off the bench this season. Martin sucked, but despite what some may think his shooting touch is in no way linked to Adelman's offense. He will turn it around.
