The steps to making this team great again are this:

    1. Don't sign mediocre free agent talent to multi-year deals

    2. Don't sign mediocre free agent talent to multi-year deals

    3. Don't trade for mediocre talent with multi-year deals

    4. Don't trade for mediocre talent with multi-year deals

    5. don't resign anyone on this team except Lowry.

This team needs to get younger and stay younger and lose lose lose lose for a long while

What about going with the post 2k Pistons model? or Close. Get 5 solid 2 way players. We already have Lowry and maybe Pat and Lee can develop into that mould as well.

So something like Lowry, Lee, Paul George, Pat, NeNe. All players can score, rebound and defend well. Not great but just well enough.

And the bench should be with guys who can create match up havocs. Some length and athleticism wouldn't be bad too. A big PG like Dragic, someone who can play multiple positions like Diaw or A.Randolph (hopefully our own Morris), a big man who can space the floor and rebound like R.Anderson (hopefully our own D-Mo) and a hot 3 point shooter like Korver/Jones (hopefully our own Bud). Finally another healthy young center who can become like Foster or Pryzbilla.

With no locker room issues and healthy chemistry a team like that can average 100 and keep opposition around low 90s. Plus out rebound the other team. We wouldnt have a closer but we would have to depend on everyone executing in all departments at a higher rate. A roster like that wouldnt be too expensive like Lakers and Dallas either.

I think this way is easier and quicker then tanking and rebuilding or gutting the team for a superstar and rebuild again. We could have bought NeNe if we amnestied Thabeet, then traded Martin and Scola for Granger or George+fillers.

They were more defensive players and mediocre offensive output

    Breakdown
    Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Rasheed, Ben.

Kyle*undersized Lee undersized, Granger, Patterson, Dalembert

I'm confused as to why you trade Martin for Iggy and say that gives the Rockets a go-to scorer.

Martin is more of a go-to scorer than Iggy. I guess Iggy is more clutch but Martin is a pure better scorer than Iggy and that's not really close. (although recent games....)

That line up would be below 0.5 and old with no real young talent
