Good to see you giving credit where credit is due. Especially since you seemed very doubtful/critical of him before the season began and even after his hot start.

You have to give credit when it's earned. I doubted him before the season and Newton's first two games weren't as impressive as the yardage indicates. But besides the 3 stink bomb games I mentioned earlier, he's come a long way. Without him, the Bobcats would probably finish 1-15 or 2-14 instead of 6-10. His accuracy, demeanor on the field and (I repeat) transformation from thrower to QB cannot be denied.

Cam Newton is the complete package. He just needs to stay hungry and continue working hard.

i'm putting a lot into yardage because that's the record he's about to break. he's td/int ratio isn't up to par but if you just add half of his record rushing tds its just fine.

The scary thing is Cam Newton just burst on to the scene out of nowhere, was this guy even a high recruit or what( was he a basketball player turned football player like Antonio Gates)?????

I just looked at Cam Newton's wikipedia page, and the list of achievements this kid already has at his age is mind-blowing. National Champion, Heisman Trophy Winner, Number 1 overall pick, and now he is dominating the NFL( the only thing he has not done yet is win games on a consisetent basis), but it looks like the Panthers will be a threat next year.

My friend told me( and im starting to believe this). That what we are seeing with Cam Newton, is similar to what happened when LeBron James came into the NBA, no one had ever seen a high schooler like LeBron( just so physically gifted), stronger, and faster than half of the guys in the NBA. Cam Newton reminds me of when LeBron James came into the NBA. Their careers have that same feel( both were also number 1 picks on the worst teams in their respective sports, and both had doubters). Both will probably win Rookie of the Year too

earlier i was bumping this thread for my ego, but i'm really surprised at how well he's done. the last game doesn't even matter anymore.

for the record i didn't start this to out hype the other hype surrounding tebow. i've really been fascinated since he set the first game yardage record. i really didn't think he would adjust so quickly. this guy has something special going on so far.

Cam Newton was a 5 star prospect in HS. He was just behind Tebow, and at the college level there weren't too many people better than Tebow.

Lerbon James might have been the most hyped prospect since KAJ. He was declared the chosen one after his junior year. So you can't put cam on that level. The only guy I would consider on his level Peyton manning.

I do not think he'll be the greatest player ever, at least not right now. But . . . he's a fine rookie QB, with more than prosperous future, ahead. It's ironic, how alot of analyst and critics were saying he couldn't make it in the NFL as a passer, yet he's broken the rookie record for passing yardage. Passing yardage is not overall indicitive of a player's production, though it takes someone who is adequate enough to have alot passing attempts, as it has to be someone the team really trusts with making alot of plays. With Newton, he's shown alot of potential and even some success in being an adept passer.

I still don't think there's anything wrong with pgab's thread title. In my mind, there's no difference between "having the greatest rookie year ever" and "on pace to be the greatest ever". Maybe he'll fall off that pace in the next season or two (and in fact I think that's probably likely), but for now, I don't see the problem with saying it.

    4500+ combined yards
    34 combined TDs

All as a rookie, with an abbreviated offseason program.

EDIT: Also, Peyton's Colts were 19th in the NFL in scoring in his rookie year (they had Marshall Faulk, who rushed for 1300+ yards that year, btw). Cam's Panthers are 5th in the NFL in scoring this year.

Must be awesome being Cam Newton. Make tons of money in college; get caught. Win heisman and national title anyways. Make #1 pick in NFL and then BEAST and exceed everybody's expectations and prove them wrong.

Well, fantasy wise, he's going to be the #1 pick next year.

You don't play much fantasy football I guess.

With the rules today passing yardage is even more over rated. You have have two QBs ready to break the season yardage record this year.

In 1998 when Manning set the record, 3 teams threw for over 4000 yards. This year, it will be around 12 teams.

The main thing to note is teams now seem to be willing to change their offense for the player rather than make the player learn their offense before getting time. You seriously think Steve McNair could not have done very well running an offense he was familiar with as a rookie? So hats off to Carolina coaches as well as Cam.

Who's your #1 next year? Is Rodgers and Brees going to get better? Are you going RB first? Cam is 2nd amongst all players in rushing TD's. Don't you think he's going to make huge strides in lowering his interceptions? Dude is a fantasy football beast.

On a separate note, I really liked Steve McNair, RIP, but he was no where near as fast as Cam Newton. McNair was more of a Ben Roethlisberger-type scrambler.

Brees, Rodgers, and Brady all have more TD's (even if you include Cam's rushing TD's) 20-40 point QBR advantage, 50-150 more completions, and 3-10 less interceptions.

Also Cam's FF stats are trending down hard in the last half of the season.
I was talking about from a passing and offense knowledge standpoint. McNair was a high draft pick who was not trusted to run the team for a while.

Rodgers, Brees, Newton. The new holy trinity. He's going to be a fantasy beast for years. If you got him in a keeper league, you are sitting pretty.
