You make a good point, but I still think Morey would pull the trigor thinking that he can somehow get rid of Turkaglo at some point, but I guess thats just a risk he might or might not take. You could adjust the trade to leave Hedo out of the mix, but its pretty well known that any trade involving Dwight Howard will have to have Hedo attatched. -Another way I see this playing out is Orlando demanding- Bynum & Gasol for Dwight & Hedo and immediately flipping Gasol, but then again, why wouldnt they just try and do a three team trade to begin with, and get all the additional assets from Houston in the first trade? -Regardless, the only realistic option in March is for the Lakers to trade for Dwight and these three teams all need each other to get exactly what all three teams want. Heres another variation of the trade that could work. Houston sends - Scola, Martin, first round pick Houston Recieves - Gasol, Walton Lakers send - Gasol, Bynum, Walton, first round pick Lakers recieve - Howard, Scola, Turkaglo Orlando sends - Howard, Turkaglo Orlando recieves - Martin, Bynum, 2 first round picks -This trade does not affect the cap as much going forward, but at the same time you are going with a big two with Lowry, Gasol, & ???, while with the first trade you have Lowry, Gasol, and Martin for years to come despite taking on a bad contract. The question is, what does Morey value more... Cap flexibility or Kevin Martin one of the best scoring SG's in the league???? PG - Lowry, Dragic, Flynn SG- Lee, Twill SF- Budinger, Morris, Walton PF- Gasol, Patterson, Morris, Parsons C- Dalembert, Hill, Thabeet -If your making this trade, you better expect T-Will or Lee to take on a huge role in the future.

I think that was the initial plan, but the exception that Lowry could fit in just fine if they didnt get an all-star PG. Westbrook could have also been thought to have been an option, who knows. I see that solidifying a franchise front line in Gasol/Nene was step 1. Step 2 was really anyones guess. I still think that Gasol will be in play when Orlando hits the phones in March to trade Dwight. I think some sort of variation of the aforementioned trade will be in play. As I mentioned before, all three teams have a common goal in place.
Oh what could have been. Initially O did not like the trade, and was happy when Stern vetoed it. The more I thought about the other moves Morey had in place to follow the trade, the more i was pissed at Stern. We have to live with it now.

I know it has been stated over and over, but with play of ALL players so far this year here is an idea Rockets in - Beasely, Randolpf, and a pick out - Martin and Budinger T-Wolves in - Martin and Budinger out - Beasely, Randolpf and a pick -I can't see Beasely and RA working out long term - he is a ball stopper in a motion-O. -Williams plays the same spot. -They still need a shooting gaurd. -RA will not play Randolpf as much as he would Budinger IMO. -They are close with the team they have now, this trade puts them in the play-offs and makes RA coach of the year IMO. -Martin's head is gone from the trade that wasn't thanks to Stern and he is not going to get over it IMO. -Budinger is what he is - KMH will not get what RA got out of him IMO. -Beasely may not be a perfect fit but I think Morris may be - the same sets we would run for Beasely are the same ones we would run for Morris - the motion-O is gone. -Morris start to take over in time. -A lot more playing time for Lee and a better chance at keeping him. -Playing time for T-Will -Beasely, T-Will, and Randolph are all in the last year of their contracts if any of them are truely not coachable we part ways at season's end or we are on the inside track to sign them if we want to, win/win. -Martin contract comes of the books. -The pick evens up the trade and may turn in to something some day. It is a win for both sides

Indiana is poised for a run in the east, and their only real hole is a scoring 2 guard. Martin would fit their need perfectly. Meanwhile, Houston has enough depth at the 2/3 to take a risk that the young and talented george will blossom into an all-star in the next few years. And, honestly, this is not even a tanking move. This is a move to get more minutes for Lee, which, in this offensive system and this roster, might actually make the team better. A rotation of Lee, Budd, George, and Twill at the beginning of the season (Morris will probably be in the D league for a bit with Parsons) would be just as strong as what we have now, and by the end of the season I think they would be starting Lee and George. It would also give them enough depth to still potentially trade Lee or Budd before the deadline, and I think Indiana may even give up a pick to make the deal happen.
Nic Batum for Patterson The Rockets starting SF for the next several years. The Blazers are loaded on the wings with Matthews, Wallace, and Crawford. Eliott Williams is like a rookie missed last season with broken legs but he can play if he gets minutes. Batum is an expiring contract. Patterson's rookie contract, the new tax system, their salary situation, and frontcourt needs. If Batum's going to shake loose through trade it's now. If the above can happen then Chris Kaman for TWill, Hill, Flynn, and Thabeet Lowry, Dragic Martin, Lee Batum, Budinger Scola, Morris, Adrien Dalembert, Kaman Kaman is able to cover both PF & C.

Really? Alright then, I thought quite the opposite considering their cap space and the fact that they need to add contracts to make the salary floor, and if they don't the difference between their payroll and the salary floor would be distributed to their players anyway. You might be right though, but I don't think it is as clear cut as you seem to indicate. What if the Rockets threw in Buddhinger?
