The rockets lack some things. A backup center, a go- to scorer, and a true small forward. Here are 5 steps they can take to compete for a long time. Right now the roster stands like this: PG: Kyle Lowry- Goran Dragic - Johnny Flynn SG: Kevin Martin - Courtney Lee- Terrance Williams SF: Chase Budinger - Marcus Morris - Chandler Parsons PF: Luis Scola - Patrick Patterson - Jeff Adrien C: Samuel Dalembers - Jordan Hill- Hasheem Thabeet Step 1: Trade Kevin Martin and Patrick Patterson to The 76ers for Andre Iguodala and Marcus Speights. This gives the rockets the go to scorer they need and a backup center. It also allows Jordan Hill slide back over to the power forward position. For Philadelphia it gives them the true shooting guard they need as well as a talented young post player to take over for elton Brand. Step 2: Trade Terrance Williams and a 1st rounder to Minnesota for Wesley Johnson. Wesley johnson becomes the true small forward we need. Williams is the scoring shooting guard the Timberwolves need to balance their lineup. Step 3: Trade Chase Budinger, Johnny Flynn, and Chandler Parsons to the Phoenix Suns for Jared Dudley, Garrett Siler, and Shannon Brown. Jared Dudley is the rockets new starting small forward and Wesley Johnson then comes off the bench where he is more comfortable. Siler and Brown are just throw ins but provide depth. The suns gain Flynn who can backup Steve Nash and can become the point guard of the future. Budinger can replace Dudley and will Do great with his shooting. Parsons will come off the bench and can play the 3 or the 4 and shoot it from long range. Step 4: Sign Jeremy Lin, Cut Jeff Adrien. This move rebalances the roster giving the rockets more height and a 3rd string point guard who is not paid over 3 million a year and will not complain if not played. Step 5: The grand finale: Trade Luis Scola, Marcus Morris, HAsheem Thabeet, and a first round draft pick to the Toronto Raptors for Andre Bargani, Aaron Gray, and Linus Kleiza. The Rockets get the piece in Bargani that they were hoping for with Pau Gasol. Aaron Gray provides excellent depth, and they are dumping Thabeet in exchange for taking on Kleiza's contract. The Raptors get a solid power forward in Luis Scola to pair with Jonas Valicuis when he comes over next season. And a young prospect in Marcus Morris to be a super sub or the starting 3. And Thabeet to provide depth, plus a first rounder. Conclusion: The Rockets roster would look like this: PG: Lowry - Dragic - Lin SG: Iggy - Lee - Brown SF: Dudley - Johnson - Kleiza PF: Bargnani - Hill - Siler C: Dalembert - Speights - Gray A very balanced roster with more size, a go- to scorer, and multiple small forwards. Also they keep very good depth.
Welcome to ClutchFans and you did a good job putting those trades together. Personally though, I don't think the end result is a championship squad. Bargnani is a fairly soft 4 and I'm not a real big fan of Iggy myself.
why the hell would the timberwolves trade for Terrance Williams when Adelman wouldn't even give him a chance with the roster we had last season... C'mon man...
that roster wins the same amount of games as our current one. not to mention makes us much older, while also trading i think u said 3 1st round picks. so we would b in a much worse position than we now are.
Who is the go to scorer on that roster that can deal with double teams? Honestly, that looks like a 4 seed in the west at the very best. Dudley and Bargnani aren't exactly anything special on defense or offense for that matter. That being it was a thoughtful post. You didn't have one ridiculously unbalanced trade in there, but it just looks like shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic to me.
Bargnani and Pau are two very different players. That is way, way too much to give up for him. I seriously doubt T-Will is going to the T wolves. lol. Aside from Adelman coaching there, I have no idea why any team would make that move. I highly doubt the Suns would trade Dudley for Bud. Since brown has more value than Flynn at this point, I don't see the incentive at all. Surely you don't think a second rounder who has yet to play a game would make the difference for them. Giving up Martin and Patterson for Iggy and Speights could turn out to be a lateral move at best. Speights has yet to put it together, (either way, Patterson has more value) so you are essentially trading your top scorer and top prospect for a defensive minded slasher. I'm sorry this is definitely not a contender. And no, swapping Jeff Adrien for Jeremy Lin won't make the difference.
Maybe he's got a point, if we put that squad together we'll suck for sure and that way we'll get the number one pick! he's a genius
Why are you making a new thread for your idea? We have the "random trade" threads for these types of posts. Also, there are some flaws with your trade proposals: 1) Iggy is breaking down, no sense for trading for him when you only have 2-3 year window at best. Plus that contract is awful. 2) Wesley Johnson has done nothing on the court to suggest he will be a starting caliber sf. This is already his 2nd year, and I haven't seen a game which tells me he will be a star in the league. Just look at his play these past few games, he's basically below average at every facet of the game. Also RA made T-will ride the pine last season, why will he play him this season? 3) Bargnani isn't Pau Gasol. I think D-Mo will be a better playr when he comes in next season.
Good post, with good thoughts. But that's not a championship-caliber team at all. You need to have an all-star, and a go-to guy. That lineup doesn't have one.
If we trade for a superstar we would have have to gut the team and start looking for the right fits next to that superstar all over again. Back to square one. We need a to get a top 5 pick and hope he turns into one.
I didn't see where you were going with this until the brilliance of step 4. If that move doesn't have championship written all over it then I don't know what does.
If we were bad enough to get a top 5 pick, which the we were subsequently lucky enough to land a star with, it would likely indicate that we have no one of real value on the roster. Thus, the need to start looking for the right fits next to that player. Back to square one. Wouldn't you agree????? Wow....
Wow, Yes, you are right. What was I thinking? Back to square one again indeed. Damn man, I guess we have to be crap in order to be good. Its inevitable.
