Title says it all. Was tonight just opening jitters or do you think the FO is quietly "tanking" this season?

Yeah. KMart is tanking at least. Might as well move him or let him stay and keep tanking for us.

I think Morey wants to tank but Les is against it. Either way we're not winning the title this season so it doesn't matter.

We didn't "just" lose to a better team. Is that all you took from tonight's performance. No BS flaming here, I'm serious. Did that look like full on effort to you tonight?

I mean we've lost every single game up to the season so far, so it must mean were tanking!

Didn't really look any different from last year. I think some players looked gassed as times. I thought McHale's decision to go small with 5 minutes left was odd. Posters in the game thread called it our "tanking" lineup, but we played played them to a tie after that move. I think every coach and player on the team would be insulted if you honestly thought they were tanking. Players have to much pride to purposely play poorly, there's no way to make an organized effort to fail without pissing off and alienating most of the team.

I'm pro-tank and this is not tanking. Tanking out of the gate is not wise. You might actually have something so you play the young guns as you would expect to play a winning team. But 1/2 way through the season, I would expect that we'll see us as a sub-500 club. That is when you fire up the tank IMO.

Look, if any team is going to "tank" and be discreet about it, I'd say it's our FO. Nobody comes out and say, "hey, we're tanking this year." But Les has always been absolutely ADAMANT about not "losing to win". All I'm wondering is if maybe we're coyly flying WAY under the radar this year (read, tanking) for the betterment of the franchise in the future.

Can you really fault this question. Game 1 or not, this is a relevant question.

    edit:
...and for those that say "you don't tank right out of the gate in a season." Realy?!? For one, this season is shortened. For two, our uber trade got nixed by uber A-hole. For THREE, the draft looks promising.

Do you guys really hate this poll? Am I that off base posing this question after game 1? If so, OK. Maybe I'm just optimistic. :D

    Questionable lineups + Non-existent coaching + Lack of effort on D + Iso-plays = YES TO TANKING

1st game + new coach + limited offseason + many new players + playing a championship caliber squad = Yes to a non surprising slow start

I think I articulated my thoughts quite clearly. This wasn't just a knee-jerk reaction to a first-game season loss. Your reply, however, and lack of substantive retort show your acumen for reasonable debate.

    Thanks for trying, though.

The thought is you bring in a new coach to improve in most instances. To your point the reasoning to replace Adelman?? That does ask why do they bring in Mc Hale of all people? He is not an upgrade to Adelman. So the theory goes it was maybe to play our youth more often which is consistent with what Morey wants for this team. Which by its function leads to more losses. So in theory there could be some mandate that leads to player development handed down from the front office. Backing you on this tanking theory.

Not tanking. Player development mandate handed down. Yes it could be called tanking.

I think hiring McHale stinks of tanking without admitting it.
