I've lived in Chitown before. Best city in the world. Go to a Bulls game, go to Navy Pier, visit the Sears Tower, etc. Did I mention, go to a Bulls game?
That was the first thing I wanted to do go to a Bulls game, but they not playing while I'm there. What is Navy Pier?
http://www.navypier.com/ Tourist area. Tons to do there. Shopping and Dining are the main things but there is tons. There are attractions and parks among other things too.
Navy Pier is overrated. Dress warm:grin:. The Art Institute, The Fields museum, The Shedd aquarium, Adler planetarium, John Hancock tower and if you're into architecture, take the green line El to Oak Park.
Art Institute of Chicago Grant Park/Millenium Park The Bean Magnificent Mile etc Sears Tower and the ledge the Chicago River Green Mill- Jazz Kingston Mines- Blues the elevated train gets you everywhere. thank me later
I've recommended this to several people and they have all loved it. Take a walking food tour. It's a three hour walking tour through historic places in Chicago and they take you to several interesting places to sample food. It is a lot of fun and was the highlight of our trip. We took the Near North Food Tour and that's what the others we recommended it to did as well. (of course we didn't go in the middle of the winter, so it may be a bit cold to do this now in Chicago, but it really was a lot of fun). http://www.chicagofoodplanet.com/
dude's going this week regardless, the advice is pointless. enjoy Chi-Town, my favorite city to visit during any time of the year. I'm sure the holiday season will be splendid.
There's a great boat ride along the Chicago River and onto Lake Michigan, but it'd be too cold now and they might not run it during the winter anyway. Great great town. If you're staying in the burbs, hop on a train for the ride downtown. Makes the trip to Chicago even better.
I live in Chicago. Very overrated city, but downtown is still a lot of fun. The weather is usually HORRIBLE, but it is not too bad right now, but if you are downtown be aware that the wind will kill you. Get a real Chicago hot dog from a street vendor and the pizza is good. See the beach if you can, it is a real trip to see beach and massive sky scrappers behind you. The museums are a lot of fun, especially the science and industry. Be aware that the city is very expensive and most people are not helpful.
I haven't found it overrated. I've read a lot of things about this town, and it's actually been better than expected. I live in the city and have found that a lot of people have been helpful and are nice.
Chicago is a hellva city, love it try to visit a few times a year. Giordino's is our favorite deep dish, Superdougs is pretty sweet too. Kuma Corner is excellent but expect to wait for a good while if you are going, small place.
