I agree for the most part the main difference is the 30k millionaire worked their butt off through college and probably working a 50 hour work week now. It might not make sense financially but they earned their money and are contributing to society in whatever career they've chosen.. There's a few posts stating welfare and all of that. Lets just say there are folks on welfare and spent $200 on MJs that seems a lot worse to me than somebody that is a contributor that is just dumb with their money...
They are both as destructive. People with jobs who buy cars and houses they can't afford put a strain on the economy just like those who live on welfare and food stamps. As these middle-class citizens live beyond their means they continue to live on credit. Eventually, they run out of credit and then they don't even make enough to make the minimum payments on their debts. So they default on loans and credit cards and simply stop paying. The cost of the credit card debt they stop paying is passed on to other users of credit cards, who pay higher fees and interest payments to offset these losses. The same goes for their loans, the banks have to make up those losses somewhere else so they push the burden of repayment off on other loan holders. That is the problem. People think when they go bankrupt or stop paying their bills that they are screwing the company, when in all actuality they are screwing their neighbors and community. Then when their houses and cars gets repossessed it drives down the market value on other homes and cars, costing their neighbors even more money. Moral of the story, don't buy with credit. Up until the 1970s Americans bought everything with cash... we need to get back to that.
both groups are financially illiterate. neither are contributing anything to society. edit: i understand that at least the career person is doing some kind of work.
Don't buy with credit, use cash.... Drug dealers use cash, they're good people, they're probably the ones waiting in line for those J's....
Moral of story is don't let idiots handle credit. Do you know how useful credit is? Why punish responsible Americans? There are bad apples in every case and scenario. Also I love how you spin a simple Jordan sneakers thread into a "I'm going to push my economic and political ideals on everybody" thread. You're in the wrong section bud. Its sad when some people just can't handle the thought of other people achieving (even if its artificial) happiness. You're like the douche that walks around telling kids that Santa isn't real.
Are you dense? I was actually defending those who were in line because others said that they were a leach on society, and/or costing tax payers by living on welfare and blowing money on shoes. My point was there are plenty of middle class Americans that are leaching off of society too because of their bad credit. So shoes bring them happiness? That's fine. My entire point is the way that those few thousand acted, the entire world will judge American blacks. That's my point. It has nothing to do with my opinion on having nice shoes is stupid or not.
Jordan is the biggest fraud this country has ever seen. If you wait in line and pay $200 for some 15yr old shoes you are a damn fool.
So in ONE POST you defended them... That makes you a hero? And... regarding the bolded statement... As if that hasn't happened already? Stereotypes are already set in stone...
Pretty ignorant statement.. We've been waiting "in line" for a ring for 15-16 years now. We come back game after game. Season after season. Year after year. Many of us have spent well over $200 to get our taste of it. Many people think we're damn fools. Shoes, iphones, cars, cupcakes, houses, basketball.....different people have different loves and hobbies. I don't see how anyone has the right to talk down to people based on what it is. There will always be people who have no business spending time or money on it, but they still do. Then there's those who can and also do. I think it's nearly impossible for stereotypes to completely go away, but it doesn't mean they're always accurate or apply to every individual there.
They always say Jordan is an icon, but to me an icon is someone who did something beyond score baskets or run for touchdowns etc. To me an icon is someone who stood up for something they believed in outside of the game. When I think of an icon in sports I think of Jesse Owens, Jim Brown, Bill Russell. Jackie Robinson and players like that. If there was any issue when Jordan was around he always took the easy way out with no comment and that just lets me know he was more worried about his wallet than peace of mind and standing up for something. The fact that violence has been associated with his brand of shoes over and over and he says nothing tell you all you need to know about him and whats important to him. He is all about the money and thats why I will never buy anything associated with him.
If you ever want to find a location with the most idiots per capita, just look at the line outside of a store when some hyped up product is about to go on sale.
iPhone line forms at Apple's flagship for absolutely no reason So word on the street (literally) is that a large number of people are queuing in line outside of Apple's flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York City (see above) -- keep in mind the Cube is open 24 hours a day. Our intrepid girl-on-the-scene reports that the group is more than 60-deep, though most people seem confused about what they're waiting for, while some believe they're actually camping out for a 3G iPhone. Meanwhile, Apple reps tell us they're crowd-controlling iPhone buyers because otherwise they would be "screaming" at employees and clogging up the store. See what happens when you get short on stock? More pics after the break. http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/22/iphone-line-forms-at-apples-flagship-for-absolutely-no-reason/
And that's a valid point and it makes sense for someone not to want to add to Jordan's fame and fortune because of it....but different people may think hes an icon for different reasons...some may not even consider him one, but just want his shoes.....either way, maybe your statement should have been specific to J's and yourself, rather than anyone who's buying any shoe.
Yup. I don't blame Jordan, the dude is just making money. It is along the lines of blaming the drug dealer for your addiction. At some point you have to take responsibility for your actions. Unfortunately the masses aren't intelligent enough to know when they are being fooled, and Nike marketing fools people over and over again. We're doomed.
Oh spare your doomsday talk. People have been fooled by marketing techniques ever since consumer culture was introduced into America. For capitalism to work there must be idiots in society.
