And then on top of that with 2k12 being a FA year......how much of your salary do you want to use up on Lee where you dont have much else to offer anyone else??
If t-will emerges a starter by the trade deadline, then lee's on the chopping block as well. Also watch out for a move for Asik by the rockets by the trade deadline. It's his last year on his contract, and he's going to get some big offers that the Bulls probably can't afford to give him.
This is the bad thing about signing SD. He takes away playtime from PatPat and JH. Bad thing is this might trickle down and take away time from the 3. (Pat pat played the 3 in last year summer league, whose to say it wont happen again with a new coach). We have too much potential type players on this team and they wont get the minutes needed. Gawd this pisses me off, we can easily put ourselves in a OKC position.
The okc position was due by multiple years of tanking which is something we won't do (and for some reason everyone seems to forget that). Because this season is so compressed, I don't think having another big will do as much as it would in a regular season because the young guys off the bench will have to play extended minutes when older players like scola start getting exhausted. Hill will get 30 minutes until Ppat comes back, and 20 when he returns. Ppat will get about 20 as well to keep Scola from reaching the point of exhaustion. Plus Sammy has a team option next year. He's still a good tradeable piece if we want to unload him by the deadline.
I didnt say lets tank many years, were already in the years after the multiple tanking. We have many of those assets. Maybe not a superstar but we have all star potential in Will and maybe Morris and one could go deeper and say maybe pat. the difference is OKC played these youngs. Many minutes, not this 10 minutes here and there crap. (and thats gonna be pat this year, who knows what bench minutes Will and morris will get)
whoa, you think pat will get 20??? From where??!?!? Scolas gonna get 18? Scolas getting 32-36 each game, period. Back to backs the exception. With the signing of SD, Pat and Hill aint getting shoot. And pat will be ready for season opener........thats already been put out.
They can be in the game at the same time. I meant to say that Hill would drop to about 14 or 15 per game.
They can be in the game at the same time. He doesn't always have to sub in for Scola. They may have Ppat play some 5 if Sammy get's into foul trouble (and he does quite often), and Hill get tired from extended minutes. Maybe even some 3 in a big lineup. But with Ppat back, Hill's minutes drop to about 25 per game, and 15 if Sammy wins the starting spot. We'll just have to see how this all works out for the first game.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7tvhbmj Houston trades: Kyle Lowry, Patrick Patterson - $7.7 Mil OKC trades: Russell Westbrook - 5.0 Mil Why Houston does it - Westbrook is an injury-free superstar entering the prime of his career. Why OKC does it - The Thunder have a lot of young talent, especially Ibaka and Harden, who will be commanding heft raises when their contracts expire, and the Thunder are not a rich team. In addition, the lux-tax penalties are much more aggressive. The Thunder are a moneyball team and probably have a clear understanding of just how good Kyle is. He's not on Westbrook's level, but he's still a damn fine PG with a contract that's one of the best values in the league. His small deal leaves more for OKC to use to retain their best talent, and his skills as a facilitator may be a better fit than Westbrook's shoot-first style. The Thunder also get Patterson, an enticing young talent to back up Ibaka or use in trades. Why OKC still probably won't do it - Westbrook is an injury-free superstar entering the prime of his career.
Hey, what if we traded for Rondo, Iggy then Josh Smith and started them with Dalembert? Is that a good core to build a championship team around?
If Westbrook becomes available then I wouldnt doubt that Morey would inquire but Westbrook just doesn't seem like the likely Morey-type of superstar he would pursue. He's very innefficient, takes bad shots, and doesnt get his teamates involved. However, he is a young superstar and can totally dominate the game at times. Just doesn't wouldnt seem to be a analytical GM's first pick to be the centerpiece of your team.
I still think Pau Gasol could still very well end up a Rocket in March when Dwight Howard becomes...... a Laker. Here is the massive three team deal I think that makes sense for all teams conceptually- *note that no trade exceptions, or draft picks are taken into consideration. Houston will most likely substitute draft picks for one or more players, and role players would be shuffled around more, but you get the idea of the big pieces you would be getting and giving up here. Houston trades- Scola, Hill, Flynn, Patterson, trade exception, 1st round pick. Houston Gets - Gasol, Turkaglo Lakers Trade - Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol, 1st Round pick Lakers Get - Dwight Howard, Luis Scola, Johnny Flynn Orlando trades - Dwight Howard, Turkaglo Orlando Gets - Bynum, Jordan Hill, Courtney Lee, Patterson, 2 1st round Draft picks Houston Rotation - Lowry, Dragic, (Lin?) Martin, Twill Budinger, Twill, Turkaglo, Morris Gasol, Morris, Parsons, Adrien Dalembert, Thabeet Lakers Rotation - Blake, Fisher, Flynn Bryant, Kapono Barnes, World Peace, Walton Scola, McRoberts, Murphy Howard, McRoberts Orlando Rotation- Nelson, Pruitt, Hughes Richardson, Lee, Reddick Q. Richardson, Anderson Davis, Hill, Patterson Bynum, Clark, Orton + draft picks -Again, this trade isnt perfect, and more than likely Orlando will want draft picks instead of players, but given Hill's development this year, this trade gives Orlando one of the bigger front lines in the east to build around with draft picks, The Lakers are set for the now and the future to dominate, and the Rockets have their own version of a big three with Lowry, Martin, and Gasol and give their young guns a chance for PT and growth.
Its a necessary evil. The Lakers couldnt take on his salary, and this isnt a pipe dream, this is the reality of what the Rockets would have to be willing to do to get Gasol.
Crowded Roster is crowded. A trade like this is inevitable. Too much depth depletes the value of young players like Patterson, etc. on their rookie contracts. Morey has been looking to "gut" the team for the past year or two with a trade like this.
thats why I said its not worth it....whats the point of bringing in an all star when its the magnet effect we want (use an all star to attract other all stars here) when you wont be able to afford another all star....for 3 years afterwards?!?!?
