Lol, so you'd rather work on a start up than to take guaranteed money, and being able to talk basketball all day? You're so full of crap, and it shows in your posts.

That is not my intent here, I am saying that basketball is not that complex and a good many 9 to 5ers have a deep understanding of it, and to brush them off because they never played at the NBA level is assinine.

Wait what? Many NBA players are dumber than a box of rocks, and are NBA players because they were more physically gifted.

That does not mean they understand the game very well, do you think Von Wafer has a better understanding of the game than you do? I certainly do not.

I am trying to say ( and I guess failing miserably) is to not overate NBA players knowledge while underating some fans knowledge.

Because you don't have to have played the game to be knowledgeable about it.

Again, JVG, Lawrence Frank, Mike Fratello they never played NBA basketball, but I am sure they know it better than 99% of the players.

GREAT IDEAS FROM REGULAR 9-5ER WHO COULD EASILY COACH PROFESSIONALLY BUT CHOOSE NOT TO BECAUSE THE MONEY IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH:

    AARON BROOKS > TONY PARKER
    VASSILIUS SPANOULIS = NBA SUPERSTAR
    KYLE LOWRY = CAREER BACKUP

    BASKETBALL IS EASY,FOLKS.

Well, one thing is for certain, many people here think they don't understand the game very well.

There's no way we internet warriors can know as much as these guys. They eat, sleep, and breathe basketball day in and day out for years. Especially the NBA guys.

Could we have done it? Sure, most posters are generally competent people. We could have studied basketball for years and gained the same understanding.

But we didn't. So we are all many years behind.

Or maybe just aren't presumptuous enough to think they understand the game as well as the best basketball players on the planet.

Look, if you guys think all 9 to 5ers don't understand the game, then fine, I happen to think differently.

    That's not hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy would be claiming Twill doesn't do his job and I do, when i don't. But personally, I've never refused to do what my employer is paying me to do. I've never hinted to management that my current supervisor didn't fit my personality and therefore holding back my productivity. You work with what you have. It's why they pay you. Blaming someone else only works once, maybe twice, before they realize you're the real problem.

Although i don't completely agree with DD's comments about 9-5ers knowing what it's like to play in the NBA, there are still parallels between jobs. Take a second to take that in. JOBS. We work. Twill works. Playing basketball is a job. You will be gone if you're not what they want or need, regardless of your talent and potential (see Gasol, Odom), in my job or his. I've been one of the top 2 or 3 employees, if not the best, at a company before, and they didn't blink when they let me go because I couldn't work the exact hours they wanted. Some of us may not know about fan pressure, memorizing a playbook, and countless hours at the gym, but we know about customer expectations, memorizing company policies/procedures/handbooks, and working 60 hour weeks. We can commit, sacrifice, fail, and succeed just like they can.

The only difference is that in the NBA you can also sell an employee's image, and most 9 to 5 jobs can't. That's why in the NBA they tend to give more opportunities, but again, it's still a job. What we can relate to is working, and not necessarily being a pro athlete.

Wait what? Now you are LEAPING to conclusions, where did I say that?

The best players get it, they understand how to take concepts and translate those to gain an advantage on the court.

But not every player in the NBA is the best player...some are just tall, some are extremely athletic, some are more cerebral.

All I am saying is that there are some 9 to 5ers that understand the game.....and to assume that everyone doesn't is silly.

I did not mean to get in a massive argument here. I just think some people understand the game quite well, not everyone obviously, but some 9 to 5ers do.

If you play in the NBA, you're one of the best basketball players in the world. Or maybe there are some 9-to-5ers who, in addition to turning down coaching gigs, also decided they didn't want to play professional basketball either.

Go out there and play then. You know what players like you probably will experience throughout the entire game? Tunnel vision. I'm not talking about pick up games with your unathletic and slow friends. Play a serious game.

    Yeah....
Also like how you don't mean to get into a massive argument in over 90% of the threads you post in.
Right. Wrong place wrong time, right DD?
