You're right. The US' foreign policy these days is reminiscent of the frontier policies of the 1870's. Crimes against humanity have been committed under countless presidencies.

Ron Paul's got my vote in 2012 if he gets the GOP nod simply on foreign policy matters alone.

    Mark:

Not trying to pick on you or even call you out per say. I just think the better choice would have been to simply say "this thread sucks and so do you" instead of sinking down to that level and responding in kind. No hard feelings I hope.

Yeah, cause that's exactly what I was implying. I mean, you can really just feel the dripping vitriol and anger in my posts, can't you? Thanks for clearing that up for everyone.

Lots of Paul knob-slobbers say they didn't support Bush.

It's like if someone asks them "do you drink Coke?" and they say "no" even though they drink 100 gallons of Diet Coke a week. It's not technically a lie, but they know damn well they're being misleading/obtuse.

what's really ugly here, is that this is a remarkable story of love, bravery and hope in the face of the inhumanity of war....and we respond with partisan crap over an offensive thread title and our internet battle lines.

Good luck to the little girl. Good on the family doing their best for her. And Merry Christmas to all you freaks.;)

May the new year bring less bitterness and spite.

Good thoughts. Sometimes I wonder how our discourse on militarism and foreign policy would change if there were more images showing the reality of how policies affect others. It's easy to celebrate a generic headline that reads 'militants killed in attacks' but its inhumane to take joy when seeing the impact it has on innocent civilians.

Agree with others that this thread would be far more meaningful if it hadnt been marred by petty partisanship and demagoguing.

Mc Mark is just fighting fire with fire. OP is an idiot, repeatedly. I don't think that Mark responding to it is more worthy of condemnation.

Hightop's jackassery should be met with trolling. Tit for tat.

I think the way he shapes the thread is tasteless, but this girl's story is reality and for many others. So many people think that these terrorist are going after us for our freedoms, yet they won't attack Canada, Australia and other free societies? Ron Paul has it write and while it is almost taboo to say America has it wrong or their foreign policy is off, its real and while I don't mind when terrorist and those killers are taken out, more often than not America has carelessly bombed them without a care for civilians who have ntothing to do with it. When we talk about some of the horrible things done in Pakistan or by afghanistan more oftehn than not people overlook that the ordinary citizen doesn't identify with these terrorist groups or even the corrupt governments(which are often funded by the states) that usually look out for themselves. You have to differentiate between the people and the government. This girl is one story, I have heard others who were woken up to hearing their kids or neighbors kids screaming with sharpnel from a near by explosions melting inside their head before they get a chance to evne become a teenager. Be it by America or some crazy Pakistan organization to them is irrelevant as they are innocent and do not want ot be involved with either, but get stuck in the middle of it.
So it goes back to that we have so much we need to work into our own country from the economy, etc that we should focus on them. The more we mettle in foreign affairs, the more innoecents die, the more our soldiers die , i mean it is just ridiculous. They try to breed fear and say we are not safe unless we attack them and that is bs. Look up Regan's relationaship with the afghanni muhajadeen
    http://whatwouldjackdo.net/reagan_taliban.jpg

They were in our country, staying in a 5 star hotel in DC, visiting the whiteh ouse, they had no intention of hurting us and these are the same people that go after us now? Why? Bc we werent occupying their lands at that time. Ron Paul should be in charge of foreign affairs bc with him at the mantle, we would never get attacked again. My only quarrel with him is he is delusional in how much he wants to dergulate

I don't really think you can blame this on Obama. He's just listening to his advisors. Of course, it does say something about his leadership as President and what sort of a President he is -- that he is willing to sacrifice his priciples based on the agenda of his advisors.

You're a complete dumbass if you are seriously likening Ron Paul to George Bush like Coke to Diet Coke. That would be like me likening Dennis Kucinich to Barack Obama -- it's just flat wrong.

"The second exacerbating development is more subtle but more important: the authoritarian mentality that has been nourished in the name of Terrorism. It’s a very small step to go from supporting the abuse of defenseless detainees (including one’s fellow citizens) to supporting the pepper-spraying and tasering of non-violent political protesters. It’s an even smaller step to go from supporting the power of the President to imprison or kill anyone he wants (including one’s fellow citizens and even their teenaged children) with no transparency, checks or due process to supporting the power of the police and the authorities who command them to punish with force anyone who commits the “crime” of non-compliance. At the root of all of those views is the classic authoritarian mindset: reflexive support for authority, contempt for those who challenge them, and a blind faith in their unilateral, unchecked decisions regarding who is Bad and deserves state-issued punishment."
