What should have been: Martin + Scola + Dragic + 1 first round pick for Gasol (+ Nene) ----- Hill + 1st round pick for Gerald Wallace Lowry Lee Wallace Gasol Nene  Great defense right there. Not sure about the offense though.
I'll attempt this since it's going around. Rockets trade: Lee, Scola, Flynn, 2012 1st rd NY pick, 2012 2nd rd Minny pick Get: D-will, Randolph, Brewer Minny trades: D-will, Mililic, Randolph Get: Bogut, 2012 2nd rd Minny pick Bucks trade: Bogut Get: Scola, Asik, 2012 NY pick, Flynn Bulls trade: Asik, Brewer Get: Lee, Mililic The only way I can see Minny trading those guys is if they get Bogut in return, and the only way to get Bogut is to get Asik and Scola to fill those position. The Bulls weren't going to be able to keep Asik next year because he'll get money from another team that they won't be able to match. The rockets have to take on Brewer's contract, but getting D-will while keeping Martin is a good deal in this case. We still can make big moves with that roster. We have to give up some picks, but the Ny pick won't be strong, and the Minny pick won't be strong either with that roster anymore. Minny Rubio/ Ridnour Johnson/ Barea Beasley/ Webster Love Bogut/ Miller/ Pekovic Bulls Rose/ Watson Hamiliton/ Lee Deng/ Korver Boozer/ Gibson Noah/ Mililic Bucks Jennings/ Flynn/ Udrih/ Livingston S-jax/ Delfino Moute/ Dunleavy Scola/ Gooden Asik/ Sanders/ Brockman Rockets Lowry/ Dragic Martin/ T-will/ Brewer D-will/ Bud/ Morris Ppat/ Randolph Hill/ Thabeet
Understand that it's not about trying to hit a homerun when dealing Luis. Our goal (at least in my proposal) is to shed Scola's contract without taking on additional players. Yes, the Bucks are getting a steal but without them taking Scola, we'd have to deal him separately which would most likely mean taking on a couple of players when we're already knee deep as it is. And that trash is going to Minnesota lol
But minnesota won't take that trash because they would have problems signing back Beasley and Love. And they still would have problems at Center.
Blockbuster involving Houston/LA/Phoenix/Atlanta Houston trades: Martin, Scola, Hill, 2012 NY pick Houston receives: Pau Gasol, Marcin Gortat LA trades: Pau Gasol LA receives: Josh Smith, Kirk Hinrich, Josh Childress, 2012 NY pick Phoenix trades: Steve Nash, Gortat, Childress Phoenix receives: Martin, Teague, Hill Atlanta trades: Smith, Teague, Hinrich Atlanta receives: Nash, Scola Houston does it land Gasol and to make their 4/5 duo one of the most dangerous in the league. Our potential with these two up front goes without saying. LA does it to get younger and to flip Gasol for multiple pieces. These pieces (2012 pick, Hinrich's expiring deal) can be added to whatever Bynum based package LA can put together for D12. In the meantime, they've managed to upgrade their weakest positions (Hinrich at the point, Childress at the three). Phoenix does it to get value for Nash rather than run the risk of him walking. Acquiring Martin gives you something tangible to show for it. Sure, adding Gortat complicates things but the idea all along was to tether Childress' nasty contract to Nash -- which this deal does. And with Teague (look up his post season numbers) and Hill, to boot. Atlanta does it to go "all in" with the group they have. Currently, they're a team in limbo with little direction. Nash/Johnson/Scola/Horford is good enough to potentially be a top three seed in the East (territory the Hawks haven't reached in recent years).
Nash is Sarver's cash cow. He'd rather let Nask walk away for nothing than trade him for non-superstars.
Also, I think Gortat is pretty untouchable with the Suns right now. They're evaluating whether he is their C of the future (which he probably is).
Your criticisms are potentially both valid. Phoenix would definitely be the wild card in all this as this trade is a no-brainer for Houston and Atlanta. From LA's standpoint, I think they would do it. But yeah, adding Gortat complicates things which is why I tried to even it out by including Childress' contract being dumped with at least two young prospects coming in -- one of which is a local Arizona product.
Now that we have Dalembert in the fold, we seem to genuinely just want to be as good as we can be. Even though that is probably just a 7th to 9th place in the west. We have all known Sam D was a real possibility for awhile and my sentiment had always been that Sam D+All star type small forward +keeping Adelman could have given us at least a decent shot in the west. McHale is now a wild card but I still think there are 3 or 4 different small forwards that we could plug in that could make us a contender in the west. Dalembert/Scola/Guy X/Martin/Lowry Patterson+Budinger+Hasheem Thabeet+3 Million Cash for Andre Iguadoloa. Or take that trade and add the Knicks pick for Josh Smith or Danny Granger. Still have Hill+Lee+Williams+Dragic off the bench.
Iggy or Granger would make us a deadly team. But it would be a back to square one type trade. We would have to give up something we need to acquire him and then again just like before we will have missing parts which we will be running around trying to acquire. If we pull it off with 2009 busts plus Morris, that would be great. Otherwise we could be looking at Beasley from Minnesota who would take far less to acquire. but then do we want two knuckle heads like T-Will and Beasley in our locker room?
It's really hard to improve our team at this point unless we make a drastic change in personnel. Morey's goal has always been to "improve the team" but I wonder if making incremental improvements have a ceiling that denies us from being a championship contending team.
If they trade Brewer, they would need Lee to fill that defensive guard hole off the bench behind rip. He would get a ton of minutes as the sixth man.
Boris Diaw? I want Boris Diaw. Extremely versatile guy who is not too old with proven playoff experience. He is athletic and he can defend, he has great bball IQ and he is in his final year of his contract. He could help us out huge this season. Lowry/Dragic Martin/Lee Diaw/Bud Scola/Pat Sam/?????
We can tweak the Rockets roster just slightly by trading Jonny Flynn ($3.415M) to New Orleans for Marco Belinelli ($3.78M ending this season). we solidify our PG roster (Lowry, Dragic and Lin) and add another pure shooter, allowing us to trade either Martin or Lee, depending what gets us a trade or pick(s) that would help us in the future.
Throw it at the Trade machine, and come up with something and THEN post it here. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine
