I got to say I love Flynn out in transition, him and T-Will made a great tandem out on the break together.
I really havent watched Lin play to comment. But frm what i read he sounds great as 3rd PG. The thing is Flynn is much harder to throw away then Lin. We would have to amnesty or trade him. Amnesty isnt that great. He would come off our roster and cap but we would still have to pay him for the remainder of his contract anyways. And we wouldnt get to use our team option so we would have to pay him for longer. Trading him is next to impossible, no one would want him. I think we are stuck with him.
We've had enough undersized point guards over the years. Lin is unselfish and plays hard defense. I think he's a better fit for our third point guard position. We already have many players on our team that can score. I'd rather have someone who can play the half-court set and make plays for others than dribble dribble and then take a contested shot. Lin for the win.
If it was for the primary backup PG, probably Flynn. But for the 3rd PG role with limited minutes, considering the salary differences, playing the motion offense, and the Rockets generally needing better defense & rebounding, I'd say Lin is the much better fit.
Wow, not sure if this thread has gone to the trolls or not, but I thought the general consensus was that Lin was d-league material. Personally, I have always liked Lin and hope he makes the roster. I simply haven't seen enough of him to decide whether he is better than Flynn. As a sort of "hunch", I do think he is an improvement, but the difference in playing time they have been given is not enough to make a worthwhile judgement. I don't think either have the level of play of Dragic though.
Insight from a Lin follower and long-time Rockets fan since 1980 (my first game in Houston with Moses Malone, who racked up an incredible 30-20 night): Lin dominated D-League, making the 1st team at All-Star weekend; Coach Musselman at Reno strongly supported him for the NBA, calling him a definite NBA talent, and used him at both the 1 and 2, even using him to guard opposing star 3's and 4's when he needed a stop at a crucial juncture in the game (if the bigger players were perimeter players). Lin did not get a fair shake in Golden State, where I watched his games, as Coach Smart was desperate to save his own job and played the starters (and his personal favorite Acie Law) big minutes even though Lin was already better defensively and on the boards than all of them. Too bad Smart got canned anyway, and GS let Law go after the season along with Smart. Lin doesn't care about stats and always plays great position and help defense (ala Joe Dumars for older Rockets fans), even at the cost of the flashy steal, but he picks up plenty of steals and blocks nevertheless. Plus he worked on his shot over the summer and has a completely different and better release, his biggest area needed for improvement. I'm not saying Lin is perfectly polished or a great player yet, but he makes the right and best play and always plays to win and make his teammates better. If I were playing for money or my life, I'd take him on my team.
So whoever voted for Lin is a Chinese? You are a sorry human being who tries to turn every thread upside down by bringing in the race issue. You are a sorry human being who tries to bring this forum down to the level of the ESPN boards. Why don't you get the hell out of here and leave us alone? You smell and stink.
Lin. He has way more upside than Flynn. Try not looking at Flynn through your obscured perception by 2k, and realize that he's not that good.

after rewatching the game, lin really had a much better game than flynn. he's defense, rebounding, and even cohesion on the offensive end were far better then "dribble-me-flynn". not really a lin-humper but I think it speaks more to flynn's game. regardless, dragic and lowry (with a bit of t-will) have the point position under control.
