It really seems like she was extra defiant for the sake of the video.

I don't think my point of view stems from my standing on corporal punishment, but it certainly is with where you draw the line.

The deal is, inflicting pain for the sake of teaching a child a lesson on someone that is 16 takes much more force. In my humble opinion, too much force. Parents typically figure out that spanking becomes less effective, and grounding is a worse punishment for children that want to go outside and play, watch tv, spend time with friends, etc.

Why he's spanking a teenager doesn't make sense to me. Grounding her would have probably been more effective.

Quit beating / spanking my son when he was 15 because it was hurting me worse than it was hurting him. Plus he was at that age where it really had no effect or value. It was rare at that age (maybe a couple of times a year) that he did something that even warented that type of punishment anyway. I remember when I was 15 and my dad started grounding me I was pissed because I much prefered the ass beating so I could just get it over with and go hang out with my friends.

At the end of the day I think you have to find out what the kid responds to. I have multiple kids and none of them responded to the same types of punishments.

State Bar dismisses grievance against court-at-law judge

The State Bar of Texas has determined the grievance regarding county court-at-law Judge William Adams has been classified as an inquiry and it has been dismissed.

The Office of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel of the State Bar of Texas issued the letter in late November and signed by K.S. Leuty, assistant disciplinary counsel. He stated, “This office has examined the grievance and determined that the information alleged does not demonstrate professional misconduct or a disability. Pursuant to the Texas Rules of Disciplinary Procedure, this matter has therefore been classified as an inquiry and has been dismissed. As provided for in Rule 6.08 of the Texas Rules of Disciplinary Procedure, however, a copy of this grievance is being forwarded to the Commission on Judicial Conduct (SCJC), for its consideration.”

He also noted the complainant may appeal the determination to the board of disciplinary appeals.

Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 81.072 (o) if a grievance is dismissed as an inquiry and that dismissal has become final, an attorney may deny that the dismissed grievance was pursued.

Adams was on a voluntary leave of absence after the release of a 2004 video on YouTube of him disciplining his older daughter with a belt. No criminal charges will be filed in district court against Adams.

The SCJC, due to the high profile nature of the matter, began an investigation into the incident.

The Texas Supreme Court issued an “agreed” order Nov. 22, as recommended by the SCJC, for the immediate suspension, with pay, of Adams, pending the final disposition of the sworn complaint filed against him. A visiting judge is overseeing all cases in the Aransas County court-at-law for the time being.

The SCJC has several options available when taking action on a case including dismissal, sanction, suspension, and the acceptance of a voluntary agreement to resign from judicial office in lieu of disciplinary action. The Commission may also initiate formal proceedings, which could result in the removal of the judge from the bench.

A case can take anywhere from a few months to over a year to be resolved.

If no sanctions are filed, Adams, who was unopposed in the 2010 election, will be able to seek reelection in 2014.

way over board. I was spanked a few times as a kid, but it was a few quick smacks to the butt, not a full out beating.

If this were two adults, one would be charged with assult. You can't assult your own kid.

Yes you can, according to the Texas Penal Code:

§ 9.61. PARENT-CHILD. (a) The use of force, but not
deadly force, against a child younger than 18 years is justified:
(1) if the actor is the child's parent or stepparent or
is acting in loco parentis to the child; and
(2) when and to the degree the actor reasonably
believes the force is necessary to discipline the child or to
safeguard or promote his welfare.
(b) For purposes of this section, "in loco parentis"
includes grandparent and guardian, any person acting by, through,
or under the direction of a court with jurisdiction over the child,
and anyone who has express or implied consent of the parent or
parents.

i hope you don't have kids and if you do, they are taken away from you before you can cause them emotional and physical distress.
