Purchased an item on 12/6/11 through Paypal (instant payment, my address is confirmed)... Item was to be shipped with 2-3 day shipping... on 12/7/11 seller provided me with tracking information.

I tried 3 times to contact the seller about this and no response.

So I went through eBay resolution center, so they contacted the seller and he responded with...
So I "escalated" the situation, and told eBay to look at the tracking information because it looks as if he has only printed the shipping label via Paypal and never took it to the Post Office.

The seller has like 2,000 positive feedbacks, 3 neutral and 0 negative.

What do you think will happen?

With feedback like that it is highly likely that USPS lost the package before it could get it's originating scan. It has happened to me before. There is nothing you can really do until the tracking on the package is updated by USPS. Sometimes, it won't even update until it has been delivered. Don't expect UPS/FedEx type tracking updates on USPS packages.

You will get your money back if buyer cannot prove you received package with signature delivery. It might take awhile.

This. It may take a few months depending on the speed of the USPS. One reason I've quit using eBay, it is a sucker's system.

eBay chargers 3-10% fees, they also require that you only use PayPal as your online payment processor which of course charges another 2-5% fee. The house is then stacked heavily in the buyer's favor as they can circumvent eBay directly and file charge complaints via PayPal. PayPal then freezes your funds for up to 180 days due to suspicious activity. Another words, they get to leverage your money free for six months, no questions asked.

I had a buyer who I sold a MacBook Pro to for $800. He received the package and signed for it as I had delivery confirmation via USPS. He waited for the delivery confirmation to clear the USPS website (between 30-90 days) then he filed a complaint with his credit card for fraudulent charges. PayPal then issued a charge-back to the buyer's credit card without first checking to see it it was true. I still had the shipping slip but the buyer won in the end.

I was out $800 and PayPal held on to my remaining funds for six months, about $1300 total. Moral of the story, buy local via Craigslist or the classifieds.

Similarly have the seller call the post office to follow up on it. I've had a package reappear after a few days of being off the grid.

I've had packages show up when the USPS tracking information was listed like that. I doubt he was cheating you - more likely the PO lost the package in the chaos. It still may show up but taking this up with paypal is the way to go.

This...sometimes they don't update it and it's still delivered...not sure if they just missed it and didnt scan it or what...might just be delayed because of the holidays.

That's rare to be set-up like that. I've been on eBay since '98. Maybe two problems but nothing major. One as a seller. One as a buyer. I have 1549 positive feedbacks and I sell all the time. 100% feedback too.

    Sh#it happens sometimes.

It happened to me more than once, thus the reason I abandoned eBay. It happens quite often on high dollar items.

Not sure what you purchased, but I've heard stories of people selling a bunch of little items, a few bucks here and here, in order to get a couple thousand positive reviews. Then, they'll sell a bunch of high end stuff worth thousands of dollars, and people will buy it because they have a good rating. Then, they'll never receive the product.

    Good luck.

PayPal is evil man, seriously. They illegally seize people's funds for up to 180 days and there is nothing you can do about it. They say it is all an attempt to save customers from fraudulent orders but you can have thousands of orders go through, and one customer complains and they flip the switch. I sold web hosting and game server hosting using PayPal as my main payment processor. I had over 1000 monthly orders go through their system. I had one customer that was a huge pain in the butt, and I gave him a refund after saying that I didn't want to do business with him anymore. He literally submitted 3-4 service requests per day for about four months.

Anyway, long story short. I refunded his money minus the cost of domain names he registered and he requested a charge back on his Visa card. PayPal then froze over $1000 from my account for six months. Luckily I had a bank transfer of about $4000 go through the day before the hold. Rather than actually being a mediator through disputes (as they're supposed to be), they just label your account as possibly fraudulent and move on. Calls and letters requesting the hold removal does nothing. I've reported them to the Texas Attorney General, and there is a complaint list a mile high... they just have powerful lobbyists.
