I like Rashmon and MC's response about the original video in regards to this article. I looked at the source and decided to not waste my time!!!

I'm pretty sure this guy tried to sell me term life insurance at my cousin's wedding, few months back. Nice guy.

That's too bad. Rolling Stone has a serious tradition of featuring some really good writing & reporting, and is one of the few contemporary outlets that's willing to do this sort of long-format expose on a semi-wonkish subject despite the fact that it doesn't exactly sell magazines.

The only source cml750 trusts is the good book. It was good enough for ancient smelly barbarians, and dad-gum-it, it's good enough for him too!

I agree. I won't accept video from MSNBC, CNN, Fox, or YouTube as evidence of anything at all. I have been so much happier and, I believe, smarter since I implemented that as a personal policy.

That being said, the written word, unlike pundit or partisan video, can be easily fact checked. I will read an article regardless of the source because bias is ever so much clearer with the written word.

And when you get banned for the 4th (5th?) time, you'll have to go back to angrily commenting on articles instead of posting your garbage here, too.

RS failed at making lists of the top guitarists and singers... Why would I trust them with politics ;).

As with any article, it has to be written, by an author who by the definition of being human will have a bias. It's the job of the editors to select well written, mostly factual works that express the general idea of the magazine; in the case of Rolling Stone, for 40 years, it's iconoclasm based in intellectualism which means a leftest lean. Read it or don't, but their history and reputation is solid. You won't be dumber for reading it.

You won't know less about guitarist either, and if you actually looked at who was on the panel who wrote that article you might question your own biases on that subject. I did, but I still disagree with about 20 (Robbie Kreiger?)

The singer one was more atrocious. It had Freddy Mercury at 14 and Bob Dylan in the top 10....

This is way off subject ;) haha.

From the article, Sam posted, here are some interesting bits, for those too lazy to read it. I agree with those spurning video as a useful medium of info.

    Um, yeah.

    And:
Within months of taking office, Bush delivered a tax break to the rich that trumps anything he accomplished through the actual tax code. "The most important thing the Bush administration did in the whole area of taxes," says Johnston, "was to kill tax harmonization."

"Tax harmonization" was economic jargon for a joint project by the world's developed countries to shut down offshore tax havens in places like the Cayman Islands. At the time, such illicit havens were costing U.S. taxpayers $70 billion a year. For Republicans, going after big-time tax evaders should have been as American as apple pie. As Reagan once said of such cheats: "When they do not pay their taxes, someone else does – you and me."

But for Bush and other leaders of the Party of the Rich, blocking corporations from hiding their money overseas wasn't an act of patriotism – it was tyranny. Rep. Dick Armey, the GOP majority leader, railed against tax harmonization as an effort to create a "global network of tax police." One of Bush's biggest donors, Enron, was using a network of nearly 900 offshore tax hideaways to pay no corporate taxes – while reporting massive profits that later turned out to be fraudulent. In one of his first acts as president, Bush "basically vetoed the initiative," says Stiglitz.

Just another fact supporting the disconnect between the Reagan past and the GOP present. Ronald, for all my dislike of his specific policies, really loved the country. Today's crowd just loves money and is willing to wipe their feet all over this great land.

So, still no specific refutations of anything said in the video by anyone here on this board. If any of you had anything, surely you would have mentioned it by now.

It is an excellent video and very insightful. Of course the usual left wing ideologues will dismiss it for being politically incorrect, if nothing else. And that is pretty much all that we have seen here in this thread.

That, and the usual name calling and personal attacks that characterize this particular forum in an unusually distinctive way. And for those of you who do not know any better, that is not the kind of reputation any group of people should be wanting to have.

In any case, I thought some of you would enjoy this video. And by the Rep I have received for posting this, I can see I was right.

    Merry Christmas, everyone!
