For those who are somewhat confused about Republicans, this video is for you. Very insightful and right on! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/x-oS4WLui3Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Being a moderate I agree with much of this video, although the modern Republican party's ideology has very little to do with what it did during the Lincoln administration.
MojoMan had joined the deep cover operations of Insider-Trader_Jorge to advance the public image of the GOP. After that didn't work out so well, Mojo has resurfaced to launch this groundbreaking thread, for great justice!
It would make an epic movie, no doubt. Persecuted for their beliefs, Trader_Jorge, basso, and zombie rtsy lead a righetous band of conservatives in a battle to take back clutchfans from the evils of big brother and their liberal army. Oh and an eyepatch! One of them has to wear an eye patch over an eye "they lost for freedom".
Post 1: Random Youtube video. Post 2: Random photo response. Post 3: Reasonable response. Post 4: Personal joke about OP. Post 5: Extended Post 4's joke about OP. Post 6: Tired obligatory jab at "the other side". Par for the D&D course.
Of course the usual suspects are all chiming in with the usual generic attacks and cheap shots. However, apparently no one has any specific objections to the content of the video. If anyone did, surely they would not be slow or shy to mention what those specific objections are. Just saying.
What is more likely is that many, like myself, considered the source and did not bother to watch the video, in much the same way that we do not watch basso or hightop videos, or read napalm black posts. Just saying...
Step 1: Post an non-sensical argument based on emotional appeals that is clearly devoid of rationality or clear statements of principles. Bonus points for including demonstrably false assertions and suggestions that your audience is misunderstood and persecuted. Step 2: Insist that a rational person's choice not to respond to the non-sensical argument is proof that the non-sensical argument is right. Step 3: Watch FOXnews. Step 4: Get an America Boner.
Every time he says the word They, just replace it with the word Republicans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acLW1vFO-2Q
I have some specific objections. 1.) You can't pigeon hole conservatism and liberalism into two distinct buckets like this video tries to do. Each person has thier own unique set of beliefs which, believe it or not, which can overlap. Thank god for Venn diagrams! Any person who is 100% left or 100% right is not in touch with reality. 2.) While history is important, how you vote today should have little to do with how the parties ended up where they are today. What should matter is: the parties approach to the major issues affecting us today, which, in my opinion is the major downfall of the conservative party. It is quite obvious to most of us what the problem is, yet there is refusual on the right to recogonize it. This is extremely frustrating to me. 3.) I can stand behind conservative ideas. I like Ron Paul and Hunstman, I think their ideas deserve consideration. What I don't like is Bachman, Cain, Romney, Perry, Newt who I do not trust. I do not see them as conservatives, I see them as puppets used by one specific and powerful group of people to manipulate public policy. So when I protest against them, I am not protesting against conservatism, I am protesting against corruption. The same thing goes for liberals. I do not want money to be entrenched into politics as much as it has been. When the economy is on the verge of collapse, I really could not care less about racism, abortion, gay marriage, terrorism, religion in schools, etc. These things just arent important to me. The only concerns I have is 1.) Government holding people without a trial and 2.) The economy recovering. Thats all that I care about.
this is from last month, basically a lengthy recap from Rolling Stone about the GOP's descent into ultra-tax cut madness and why - I think this is probably the best encapsulation of the powers-that-be inside teh national party right now: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/how-the-gop-became-the-party-of-the-rich-20111109
Everyone should read this. It says what I have been saying here for years. That this isn't the party of Ronald Reagan. That Reagan actually raised taxes when his big tax cut led to huge deficits, a responsible act, something the current GOP screams is an idea straight from Hell. That income tax rates prior to Reagan were far higher (and much higher than today even after he cut them), and the GOP supported those rates because it paid for needed federal spending on education, research, infrastructure, a host of things that produced the economy that drives the economic engine of the world. The economy didn't suffer from it. Deficits were far smaller, and were even balanced from time to time. Read it, folks, especially the grade school Republican pundits here who continue to carry water for the radical, fundamentalist party that has become the GOP. The party that works for the wealthy and screws the middle class.
Post 7: obligatory post in all political and religious threads by the guy who thinks he is above it all but has to put his stamp on the thread anyway.
