Yeah, Optimas and Sonatas are the same car with different sheet metal -- I think like the Kia's body style a little more.

    Next stop the rim shop...

That's awesome, how many fine ass women can you fit in that car?

Me, you and the ladies of So Cal. (maybe Dave can go too)

    DonnyMost,

Well what have you decided? Sonata's are known to have a more quiet cabin and less road noise (family oriented?) while the Optima's outside appearance and modifications is geared for more aggressive driving.

    Yoyo OP,

Just read your last post with the exboss. Can you give us your current month's re-evaluation of the optima when you get a chance? Did you choose the Turbo version also? Thanks.

    THREAD BUMBP

A new thread might be more useful, but hopefully people will stop in here to check it out.

I test drove a 2012 Kia Optima SX today. That is the "sport" or "turbo" version. For example, the rims comment many have made on here, the turbo has better rims (ala the one Griffin jumped over). So it includes the nicer rims, a sports tuned suspension and rear spoiler.

It is a really very nice car. I test drove a version with the premium package, so it had all the bells and whistles. All leather interior, heated/cooled seats, navigation package, infinity sound system, panaromic sunroof, etc, etc. It was kind of wet out, but no problem on the power front. Didn't do any serious turning with speed, but on the highway, really felt like it had plenty of power. Fuel economy isn't great at 24 city / 34 highway.

I have not fully shopped around, but the best price I've found so far for the SX version, fully loaded, is $28,699 + TTL = $31,156.

EDIT: Anybody give me the real pro's and con's of buying versus leasing? I can buy, but drive under 12k miles per year, and am not sure if I'll want my next car for more than 3 years. I'm trading in a 3 year old car as is.. because it is an SUV, and I just don't need an SUV.

What would be the Optima's competitors with regards to performance and package options at this price?

Take a look at the Subaru Legacy. They start at 19k to 28k. They have 2.5l, 2.5l turbo, and 3.6l boxer motors (http://www.subaru.com/engineering/boxer-engine.html). The 2.5l is only available with a CVT transmission (http://www.buzzle.com/articles/cvt-transmission-pros-and-cons.html) so make sure you drive it before deciding if you like they way they drive. The 2.5l turbo is only available in manual. You can get the 3.6l in a 5 speed automatic. Also, these are AWD vehicles.

Also, good crash scores: 2012 Top Safety Pick 2012 Subaru Legacy: good performance in front, side, rollover, and rear tests and standard electronic stability control

Do NOT lease. You're basically giving the dealership free money and you'll end up with nothing in the long run. Leasing makes no sense to me.

Was this a 2.0 or 2.4 and was it an EX, LX, or SX?

Not sure why anyone would pay $30k+ for a Kia. I'd go BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, or Benz at that price point.

Agree. You can go home with a nicely loaded Lexus IS for 35k.

    Much better option, imo.
