Surprised nobody has made a thread on this yet. Does anybody here play?.. And for those that don't, I highly recommend you buy this game! If enough people here play this game, then it'd be fun to set up a Clutchfans Minecraft private server... don't ya think?
I hear so much about it and I thought about trying, but didn't understand it enough to see the appeal.
The appeal is the endless replay value of the game. When I first got it, I thought it wasn't worth it either... but the game turned out to be very fun. It is the ultimate sandbox game. And the game is constantly getting new additions and such. Not to mention there are literally hundreds of thousands of mods that can be used to modify the game in any way you wish! (Since Minecraft is practically open-source).
I played this game for awhile with a buddy, it was fun for about a week. I was like OMG I can make anything I want! then I was like ... I made everything I wanted, the end. I will say was really fun for that week or so.
My co-worker's 11 year old kid loves this game. That's when I thought it may not be for me. I just watched that video and I can't say it really sold me. I get to walk on blocks, into blocks, and down blocks. That's all I got from that video. lol. Maybe after I'm done with ol' Skyrim in a month or two, I'll check it out.
The only downside to this game is that the majority of the users are below sixteen years old. So yes. Many of your nephews/sons/friend's or coworker's children will play this game.

Players have made simple contraptions such as trap doors, automatic doors, machine guns, etc. And some players have made entire computers in the game.
I've spent far too many nights up building random virtual crap. If you have a Windows Phone, there is a clone called "Survivorcraft" that is pretty awesome. The developer is very active on the site adding new features.
speaking of minecraft, one of the funniest videos i've seen in a long time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnjSWPxJxNs <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LnjSWPxJxNs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
