And he would have been able to coach the Thursday nighter if it were a home game and he didn't have to board a plane.
Where did you read/hear that since the surgery has been done? There has not been a single thing mentioned about his post-op recovery and when he has been cleared to be back with the team and resume simple (let alone full coaching) duties. I have a feeling that Wade isn't going to be back any time soon (ie - rest of this season, possibly including playoffs)... given the nature of how quiet everybody is being about this, and the sudden immediate need for the surgery, it wouldn't suprise me if it wasn't simply a "minor" procedure. I'm just hoping he has a stable recovery without any unforseen complications and can just continue to get well soon. His job will be waiting for him when he gets back.. and if he wants to go elsewhere, i'll wish him well and thank him for turning this defense/team around.
I remember hearing it on 610 when they had McClain on. It was the day they finished the procedures I think.
where have you read that his recovery wasn't going well? i read sunday that he was up and around after the surgery.
http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2011/12/texans-work-to-overcome-latest-loss-as-phillips-takes-medical-leave/ http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2011/12/texans-defensive-coordinator-phillips-making-continued-improvement-after-surgery/ That's a statement released by the Texans, via McClain, but still from the organization. That we haven't heard anything I don't think should mean anything at this point, cause the team is always pretty guarded about injuries. And if it was more serious than they let on, why give a two week timetable? Just say he's out indefinitely or for the rest of the season and that a decision about the playoffs we'll be made at that time. Be vague. In any case, I wouldn't be surprised if he waited to come back once the playoffs start. Indy and Tenn shouldn't be tough defensive tests and are not must wins.
I never said his recovery wasn't going well... I just said that I don't think he had simply a "minor" procedure and I don't think he'll be back this season. In fact, I think he could still be in the hospital. I'd expect a statement when he is released.
Yeah didn't feel too good when typing that. I'd have felt even slightly better if it instead came from the fake john mcclain's twitter.
Little update on Wade: Not far fetched to think he's back for the Tennessee game, calling from the booth perhaps.
Presuming he doesn't get out of the hospital for another day or two, has him possibly being discharged on Thursday or Friday. I don't think he will be able to coach just one week and 2 days from going home... he's still going to be recovering. BTW, week-long hospital stays are reserved for more than "small kidney procedures". I'm hoping he just has a smooth recovery regardless... if he's able to come back this year, so be it, but I'm hoping nobody is pushing it. When he coaches again is really secondary at this point.
Certainly...health is first. I'm just kind relying on what the initial report was...that he would be out 2 weeks, with a 10 recovery period. I also remember reading rumblings of him possibly coaching from upstairs when he does come back. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see that, cause even when he is discharged home, it's probably gonna take a lot longer to get up to normal speed again. So him walking up and down the sidelines seems improbable. But calling the game from the both, not so much.
All possible. I just feel that after just 1 week of being discharged from a week+ hospital stay, he will still likely be in full recovery mode, and likely still on pain medication (which would not allow him to coach). Initial reports were pure speculation. They probably shouldn't have undersold the type of procedure he was going to have (but I understand why they possibly would want to, given his future head coaching aspirations). I just wish him an uneventful recovery.
PFT: 'Texans players desperate for Wade Phillips to return' [rquoter]The Texans have played two games without defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, who underwent kidney and gallbladder surgery last week. The Texans have lost both games. Per a league source, Texans defensive players believe they need Phillips back as soon as possible. The source explains that there’s a sense in the locker room that, when it comes to devising the game plans and calling the plays, linebackers coach Reggie Herring “doesn’t know what he’s doing.” Though the assessment may be a little harsh and/or unfair, it’s the natural reaction to a home loss to the Panthers and a late-game collapse against the previously 1-13 Colts. Head coach Gary Kubiak said that Phillips would miss two games. Though next Sunday’s visit from the Titans won’t do much to affect Houston’s playoff positioning, they definitely need Phillips back before the wild-card round.[/rquoter]
Reggie Herring either equals Frank Bush or Wade Phillips is a freaking mastermind/genius who is soley responsible for the Texans turnaround this season. I'm no expert but I will go with the latter.
