I'm a big fan of Quincy and his obvious physical talent, but he doesn't have half the skillset Durant had at the very same age. He's going to be a great player, but you're comparing him to the greatest college freshman in recent memory, if not of all time. That being said, I love what I'm seeing from this team. I had a sick feeling in my stomach looking at the turnovers after the first few games, but Pierre Jackson looks cure that. Not only with his own play, but the competition is obviously helping Walton raise his level of play as well. Getting out rebounded as badly as we did against BYU is sad. Sure, the 2-3 zone is going to leave open rebounding lanes, but will our length there is no reason we should be beaten on the boards by 15. Everything else about the game was butta'. This year the Bears look to be everything we hoped they would be last year, and more. Looking forward to the LV Classic.
A national championship is the strongest argument out there, but Durant did enough to keep that debate going on indefinitely.
It's only midway through the 1st half, but Baylor is having a very difficult time against a tough, physical, moderately talented team in WVU. The word that comes to mind is soft. If West Virginia were a little more skilled, Baylor would be down 20 by now.
Heslip erupted like a volcano. 13 points on 6 shots. He was very aggressive in looking for his shot. My "soft" comment is directed at Perry Jones III. Kevin Jones of WVU owned him most of the 1st half. But WVU doesn't have the talent to keep up with Baylor and they stopped scoring. The shock at the beginning of the game should help in Big 12 play. If Baylor comes out like sissies against a team like Missouri, they won't be able to flip a switch and come back in a matter of minutes. This game should be a good lesson for them. In the 2nd half I'd like to see PJ3 take over on the inside and leave the long jumpers to Heslip and Jackson.
Heslip is a damn good player on both sides of the court. This team runs deep. Even the transfer Franklin is playing good minutes. Drew loves tranfers. Heslip, Jackson and Franklin have solidified the guard positions.
Heslip and Jackson carry Baylor into OT. PJ3 totally disappears down the stretch while guarded by Kevin Jones. He didn't even act like he wanted the ball and it forced other players into tough shots. He also got outmuscled for a rebound but was bailed out on a bogus foul call that allowed Baylor to tie the game. PJ3 is SOFT.
We weren't really feeding him. The guards dominated the ball but were pretty effective all game. Baylor squeaks out a nice victory against West Virginia in Vegas. I hope some of you guys caught the game on ESPN.
Well put, "Baylor escapes from Las Vegas". Not enough talent and too many freshman on WVU to close it out (thanks to a bogus call that cost them the game in regulation).
The guy did push off but ya it was questionable. Perry Jones has to man up in that situation. He's only 19 though and will fill out that frame eventually when he hits the league.
I hope they are running a clean program and they probably are running a clean program, but it raises a few eyebrows when I see a Baylor squad chalk full of future NBA talent. Waco isn't exactly known as a basketball hotbed. Calm down Baylor fans I'm just throwing the thought out there and want to see if anyone has any one else has thoughts on this.
This a new trend that occurred after Baylor reached the Elite 8. That was largely due to the Ekpe Udoh transfer. Perry Jones committed to Baylor in his freshmen year of HS. Players like Miller and Austin grew up nearby so it's not too hard to see why they chose Baylor. Baylor is clearly the best program in the state. I'm happy about getting freshmen studs but they're most likely one and done. I'm more excited about getting players like Acey, Jackson, Heslip, and Franklin that will help the team for more than a season.
