i agree. thing is that the things she did in india's big boss tv show happen in pakistani cinema already so i dont get how she garnered so much controversy while no one ever said anything about other actresses. also, dadakota, her manager in INDIA feared that something happened to her while she was in india and not pakistan. so please, enough with the knee-jerk. i just read a news article and it turns out that her visa in india was expiring so the authorities instructed her to leave the country and get it renewed. she's now in lahore, which is in pakistan.
I thinks some Muslims who interpret Islam in a extremist or near extremist have a problem with accepting or understanding freedom in its wide sense, but I sense that this is changing for the better with time.
She is a patriot, by standing up for woman's rights, she is shining a light on the cockroaches that try to keep women down and in their place. Totally bull****....She is a HERO ! DD
Hmmm, maybe we should start targeting any leader who says "Stone her", let them feel what it is like to be a target...... Of course that would never happen, but see those cowards scurry when they are putting their own well being on the line. DD
dude, the extreme religious right is going to have an aneurysm when it comes to her. thats for sure. but you need to also see that though you may think shes doing this for women's rights, a lot of people, included western educated progressive pakistani women see her simply as an attention-w**** that is doing this strictly for personal fame and monetary gain. her intentions arent a pure desire to champion the causes of the oppressed gender.
Does this matter? If the road to hell is paved by good intentions, perhaps in some cases (and I stress some), effect is more important than intent. If she did induce some social change for the better, then she's a hero in my book. Lord knows we've celebrated the positive outcomes of those with less than noble intents.
Seriously DD, From this thread, I finally now understand why so many have contempt towards you on this board. You are a grown man yet you post like a child constantly degrading and throwing insults at a culture and a religion you know nothing about. Every country in this world does not share the same views that we do in America in regards to what is permissible in that given society. While we express acceptance to things such as p*rnography, gay marriage, and nude photos, in other countries such acts are completely taboo. This is not a women's rights issue. The issue at hand is that she did something outside the bounds of what is acceptable for a given culture or society. Posing nude whether as a man or women is equally wrong.
Who cares what her intentions are? The point is that she should not have to fear to be murdered because she shows some skin or criticizes some mullahs. It's interesting that certain members focus on her, blaming her and criticizing her intentions. "Blame the woman." Familiar pattern in certain circles. Yes, it is. Of course it is. No, posing nude is not wrong per se, just because you say so. No, the issue at hand is that no woman (or man) should have to fear murder for posing nude, even if that is outside of the rules in some societies. Even there, one should not have to fear murder for it. And the issue at hand is that in some societies - like Pakistan - which does not mean that Pakistani people are bad people as a whole, but they have a lot of problems as a society - one does have to fear to be murdered for it. The other issue at hand is that there are underlying reasons why these societies are the way they are, and these reasons can be traced back to a certain understanding of a certain religion.

It is wrong if you are a backwards thinking cave man, sure.... If you are part of the modern free thinking world, it is simply "no big deal". DD
Nudity is no big deal. Reality shows though? I propose a compromise. The West gets nude photos. Islam can issue however many fatwas it wants against Jersey Shore. WE ALL LIVE HAPPY!
That same kind of rationale is the reason why when you tell people you are American outside the borders of this great nation people cringe; a sentiment you should be familiar with considering you lived in England. To look upon an alternative view or take on life in regards to culture, practice, or thought as inferior to your own simply because it does not agree with what you necessarily believe in is arrogant and represents imperialistic mentality. The words spoken clearly exhibit the ethnocentric parochialist that you are.
Hey, to say one way is better than the other when it is.....sounds ok to me. I mean I can acknowledge the lack of education and freedom in that country ruining the ability for their people to experience freedom and the freedom to think for themselves without the reprecussions of a repressive class system. I can respect the people, without respecting the system. Are we perfect? No, not by a long shot, but we are a damned sight better than Pakistan. DD
The thing is, in this respect there is no disagreement. However, I am referring to things from an ethical standpoint. Just because you believe the expression of nudity is perfectly fine and another country does not does not make it a backwards country. Different countries have different perspectives on what is permissible within culture that stems from its past history as well as religion. What I am saying is that because a country expresses a different perspective on what they believe is ethical and what is not is perfectly fine to have. Just because American culture has accepted that racy photos are permissible in magazines or full on nudity as in playboy or p*rnography is ok to have, does not mean that every other country should also believe that it is fine to do so, nor does it make the country backwards.
What is an indication that the society as a whole is backwards is an atmosphere where someone has to fear being murdered because of showing too much skin.
Yes, it does, it means their thinking is archaic and backwards, and repressive to women. Tell you what, they can just choose to look or not, there choice. Thus, the backwardsness of those countries. It is not about culture it is about repressing the women of that culture and using bullying tactics to get folks to follow a certain way of life, or be beaten or killed if you don't. It is pure mafioso style of culture, and is as backwards assed as it gets. If a culture does not like nudity, then by all means, just don't look. DD
There's FHM India? That's amazing. That country has come a long way as well. India and Pakistan have been headed in opposite directions for years now. There's more freedom in India. You see an attempt to grow. You see a place like Bangalore and they have buildings that are similar to what you would see in America. There is economic progress, some of it because of outsourcing. They're way more open minded when it comes to things (in this case, women in FHM), than Pakistan is
