Gotcha. I'm guessing DM is trying to sign him to a Scola type of contract. I hope it gets done soon so we can get on with the season.
I have a feeling our plan is going to fail. I am sure that management and coaches are waiting till after our two preseason games to determine what to do. If our bigs fail then we will have to pay more if they do not then we may not be in such a need and pay less. Sadly our bigs against San Antonio might fail, causing Dalembert's demand to be higher.
This could work out well in the long run if they can sign him to a contract a contender can afford to sit on their bench as a backup.
Why? Just because every other plan has failed til now? On a lighter note, we might be trying to secure another player with our cap space before we use the TE. We could get Dalembert with one or the other, I guess.
I'm not saying all is lost and the Rockets will never make another positive signing/trade/etc again, but there is a reason morey was working the Pau trade before the Dalembert signing. Honestly, if Morey couldn't seal up Nene; he probably would have been looking to bring Samuel Dalembert on anyway. The difference in contract size from Nene to Dalembert would have allowed Morey to fill out the roster in other ways as well; perhaps a michael redd or even the return of the Toothless Tiger! Lowry/Flynn Lee/Michael Redd (?) Budinger/Morris Pau/Patterson/Carl Landry(?) Dalembert/Pau I hate this league.
The Houston Rockets are signing Chandler Parsons, the team's second-round pick from Florida, according to his agent Mark Bartelstein in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. Does this have any bearing on signing Dalembert?
I think so still. I mean morey was signing parsons regardless just the trade held them up and mess us up to pick up other free agency obviously. that being said I think sammy will wanna come here tho and sign.
Yep. The Rockets' cap room (to the extent they elect to use "cap room") just went down by about $895,000. At this point, I'm not so sure the Rockets sign Dalembert unless via S&T with the Kings using the Battier TPE.
We send emails to Gortat & make websites for OshKoshbyBosh... Is there any movement we can start to keep Dalembert away? WaitForAndreDrummond.com? SammyD-on't@twitter This guy will keep us in neutral.
What impact does the Parsons contract have on a S&T with the TPE? Also, wouldn't the Daly Lama prefer a S&T if all else being equal in order to preserve Bird Rights?
None (as opposed to a $895,000 negative impact on cap room). Hence, my point about it now becoming a more likely alternative to an outright signing using cap room. Mind you, I'm not saying that either is likely at this point. The Rockets can offer Dalembert a contract starting at up to $7.45M if they can arrange a S&T deal with Sacramento. Houston could give Sacramento a future second rounder and then absorb Dalembert's salary into the Battier TPE. If that happens, and if the Rockets then exceed the salary cap after such S&T goes through, then the Parsons contract will simply be characterized as using a portion of the MLE.
I hope Morey has Al Jefferson or Marcin Gortat on his radar. What would it take to get one of them? I'd be willing to dangle Martin and some young talent like Thabeet or Hill for them.
I beginning to not like Morey. Not because of this not happening. It just seems like he is really inept at doing anything of significance lately. To me ineptness is not acceptable over a long period of time in sports. After a while I like the team I follow to have some tangible plan in place and headed towards a direction. Maybe hit on one or two guys they are going after or trades. Too many misses frustrate me as a fan after a couple of years. Just being honest. He needs to step it up if he wants to keep his job I think.
FYI, here's some additional info from Larry Coon about any sort of contract that could be entered into in connection with a sign-and-trade deal: To the extent that Sacramento's on board, the issue of non-guaranteed years could be a sticking point for Dalembert. I bet Morey would want a three-year deal starting at around the $7.45M amount of the Battier TPE, with the second and third year both non-guaranteed. Dalembert would obviously not want that. There's probably some middle ground to be found. Or . . . maybe they've broken off talks altogether and this discussion is moot.
