Looking at that list makes me question the idea that tanking the season for a top draft pick is a sound strategy.
^ Unfortunately I feel it's our only hope. Not every year is loaded with good picks. 2009 is a prime example. But if underclassmen truly stayed in school because of the labor dispute, then 2012 should be loaded.
This draft had more excitement than the 2012 draft. IMO. Anyway, our 2009 lineup will be a great team one day. As well as our new bench. They just need to stay together.
They couldn't flip these 2009 guys and they thought they could with a maxed out Nene if he were a bust signing?
It's unfortunate because a guy like Flynn can be a quality starting PG in this league, but he's not in a favorable position to develop here. In Minnesota, he was forced to play in the triangle offense in his rookie year (the worst possible offense for a penetrating PG), then he never fully recovered from a serious hip injury last year. Williams has the most star potential of the bunch, but it's up to him to grow. But like Flynn, PT can only help him. I don't have as much faith in Thabeet, understandably. Hill is an enigma. He has the tools and potential, but I can't see him fully getting there either.

Depends on the draft and how one feels about Morey and the Rockets scouts. 2012 is purported to be a deep and top-heavy. You may not need #1 overall (Drummond) to win in this draft; the potential top 6 looks intriguing. If ever there was a season to develop youth, this is the one. I think Morey could work wonders with a high pick in this draft whether he uses the pick or trades it for a star player. Remember, Morey is already on record as calling tanking not just a sound strategy but the most likely strategy to succeed in rebuilding and acquiring star talent. It is Les who wants to try to rebuild using what is the least likely strategy. That said, I thought it was a great plan to give second chances to a bunch of busts/near busts while gering up the salary cap for a run at a major talent.
It says something when the best player you have from that draft is the guy who was drafted last out of that group. Not to mention he is a white guy.
THAT is what Ive been saying about this whole "lets tank and get a superstar from the lottery" bs....
Man imagine how good Memphis would be if they didn't draft Hasheem. Curry/Evans/Harden/Rubio would make a major impact.
It's all a plan, you see. Because once Daryl "Wizard" Morey goes back in time, he can use the clasue in the new CBA to convert the player's contracts to their draft picks. Then he can package the 3 lotto picks to get Blake Griffin. Then use Blake Griffin to woo Cp3, then use Cp3 to woo Howard. Duh! It's so simple!
Except for Griffin, Harden and some others this draft was so weak Everyone else got the pregnant Arnold
It's too much of a coincidence, Morey deliberately targeted these guys so they will expire together or he can trade them as expiring contracts. Which is why a multi year signing of Dalembert would make no sense to me.
