This. McClain is partly responsible due to his willingness to be used as a mouthpiece, but the fans that actually buy this drivel are equally responsible. Stop feeding the beast, and it will go away. Wade is extremely unlikely to get a HC gig, for all the reasons listed above and then some. Honestly, I've never seen a story quite like this. People are freaking out and there hasn't even been a single MENTION of Wade as even a candidate from any other team. Not from the media, not from organizational sources, and definitely not from fans. Take a look at blogs in Jacksonville, Miami and Kansas City. Wade isn't even on their C-list of candidates. This is a Houston-generated story, and John McClain has sold himself out to work as Wade's campaign manager. Ignore it, and it'll go away - because there's no substance here.
Why is it better to stay here? Money? Naaa. . .he will get more money else where as HC Love? It is passing . . . . love you today . . hate you tomorrow It is better for Texans and Texans fans . .. . but for Wade? Would *ANYONE* here forego a promotion . . . .say nope . . i don't want the more money and more control etc I'm good being a drone Rocket River
I don't think anyone here is "freaking out"...seems everyone's on the same page: he wants a job more than other teams probably want him. I'm just offering my thoughts on the hypothetical. If he did leave, I think the inclination would be to bring in someone that could run the same system, or at least as similar as possible. No way they bring in a 4-3 DC (Del Rio, Marv Lewis). Even bringing in a standard 3-4 guy would shake things up and require a traditional space eating nose, something Cody absolutely is not. You don't tear down and rebuild a top 3 defense unless you're forced to. Trick is....who else likes to use Wade's 5-2 Tiger?
Look at the initial post in this thread: Wade's bound to get a head coach job offer from someone given the turnaround that he has produced with this defense. That's one of several from the past few days. There are definitely fans that aren't on that page, and seem to actually believe that Wade is going to get a head coach job.
(reposted from another thread) He *should* do what's best for him. Arguably, that would mean staying right here. He's clearly elite at one job and ho-hum at the other. Any HC job he'd go to would likely have far less talent and playoff potential than here. So, for Wade's best chance to a) be elite, b) win and win big, he should stay right here. Additionally, there may be at least *some* lower level of stress as DC rather than HC.
He's been a winning head coach even though it failed with the Cowboys, but I think that always has to go back to Jerry Jones breathing down your neck. I think he should stick around not just as a fan speaking, but because he has the players to run his 3-4, winning team, and it's Houston. With that said though, if he chose to leave I would just promote Reggie Herring or Vance Joseph because they would run the exact same system and we can't really afford to have 3 different systems in 3 years.
I agree. The dude just likes to have his name mentioned. He is a Oilers/Titans fan after all, he just wants to sabotage the Texans as much as he possibly can all incognito like, lol.
If the alternative is to take a lose-lose situation, he's better off staying here, IMO. (He likely sees it differently.) I'd much rather be a highly-paid, revered DC in my hometown than the HC of a crappy team with no money and/or fan support in a football wasteland like Jacksonville.
Can't we at least finish the season, see what happens in the playoffs and then when the off season is here and we see that such and such team is wanting to interview Wade before we start discussing the next DC.
If he fails. . . DC jobs are going to be available. If he goes to Jacksonville . . . . goes 2-30 over the next two years He gets fired . . . I am sure he could get a DC job somewhere even after that. Rocket River
Why would he do that at age 65? I forget which business author spoke of rising to one's level of incompetence. Wade is an elite Head Coach. Succeeding is a happier thing than failing. If he's honest with himself, he'll stay here.
His dad lives here. He's respected/valued here and doing a great job. It's all about comfort zone. Why would he wanna leave at this stage in his career?
He's 64 years old, and just underwent a kidney procedure. Why would he put his body through the stress of taking over a BAD football team?? He's likely using this press as a way to leverage the Texans into giving him a pay raise next year. I'm guessing that's his end game here.
With Wade signing to a 3 year contract, it wasn't a far stretch, back then, to think that Kubiak's contract would expire and Wade was a coach in waiting. I think it's still reasonable to not want Wade as a head coach.
