Who is our starting center? We seem to have completely left all speculation following the Marc Gasol contract offer. I would assume we would just sign Dalembert because he is the best big man available. Or are we trying to still make trades? After the big letdown, It's difficult not to get all antsy...
I asked McHale that today. With 3 days left before the first preseason game, does he have an idea who his starting center for the contest is? He said no and didn't really want to get caught up in who is starting. "Starting means about as much to me as... nothing. You got to play. Just because you don't start doesn't mean ... if you play better, you'll play 30 minutes. Would you rather start and play 12 or would you rather come off the bench and play 30? I'd rather play 30 myself, so starting makes no difference to me." Likely you'll see Jordan Hill starting though... can't imagine Hasheem will start.
Has anyone given you any reason as to why we haven't signed Dalembert? I expected us to pick him up as soon as Nene was off the market.
They should stop throwing Hill in at center. Last two seasons was a fail with that experiment. He's just not strong enough to play the 5. Watching him get knocked around by Nene and getting bounced back like a rag doll wasn't fun. I rather them start Thabeet asap. He's our only true center at this point. Get him grabbing boards and blocking shots right away. Have Hill sub in for him.
Well I guess if we don't sign a decent free agent center to come in,.then it will be an obvious sign that there is an obvious reversal in philosophy. They are simply hoping for the big prize in June. With Craig Smith or Jordan Hill as our starting five, there is no way we.will be just out of the 8th seed. We will be tanking for sure. A lottery pick along with cap space should net us some good talent
Unless there's another trade on the horizon...jus give Dalembert a one year deal and lets move along....
I assume it will be Hill. I expect to see a lot of Thabeet in the two preseason games, but it seems like it's Hill's job to lose, which isn't saying much. If they can pull in Dalembert on a short contract I think he would add enough to make us a legitimate team. Seems to me we are set at point (lowry/drag/flynn) set at sg (kmart/lee/twill) iffy at sf (bud/lee/twill/morris) solid at 4 (scola/patterson) absent at 5 (hill/thabeet/cousin?) I look at that team and say add a legitimate center (not all star, but a guy who is an actual 5 not 4/5), and we will win several more games, as he would make just a few necessary stops at the rim that will allow us to pull out with Ws. Does no one else believe the same thing? I think we've become very critical of our roster when in fact we have a good deal of talent, still missing the long term fix, but at least for this season I am not too worried (if we sign Dalembert or Thabeet plays decent). Thabeet with a low post coach will do wonders I predict. Can't wait till Saturday. I am getting so antsy!
Ya, i'm serious lol. With the compact season I think SA will be down, NO just took a big step back, Portland lost Roy and Andre Miller (who was very valuable to them), the Suns won't be any better, GS might be better but not a whole lot better, Utah sucks, and Denver will be average. Teams that will be better than us: OKC DAL LAL LAC MEM (maybe)
I could see us as a top 6 seed. It's not like our current team was bad last year. We barley missed the playoffs and we didn't even have a center. Your telling me with Sammy, a shot blocking, defensive big we cant make the 6th seed? Lowry who in my opinion could have a break out season, martin, scola, thrown in sammy. I think we will be pretty good. We have a solid bench. Lee,patterson, twill or bud, morris, dragic. I think our team is a lot better then we give them credit for.
