You know what, I think they might just do it-- trading either Martin or Scola in a 2012 cap-clearing move. Would be kind of like what Orlando did when they got the cap room to sign both Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady (the Grant Hill thing didn't work out so well due to injury luck... but the cap clearing move itself was a good one). Meanwhile, even with one of them gone, the team has enough depth to still likely end up with a respectable .500-ish record.
Morey has to be the least lucky GM in basketball... TMac and Yao fall apart. He believes in Gortat, did everything he could to get him... and is shot down. He has a deal in place to get Tyson Chandler last year, and it falls apart... He clearly knows talent, and knows what he is doing but the guy runs into a wall 24/7.
I like scola more, but I think the production offensively of a guy like martin trumps that. I'm hoping thats the plan going forward. They have to get into the game to be players in the game.
