I didn't like the trade but the logic of bringing up Gasol not winning a title with Kobe last year is well dumb. By that logic trading for LeBron James would be dumb.
Not true Lebron was on horrible team in Cleveland, they got rid of Lebron and they were the worst team in the NBA. Lakers on the other hand were a star studded team
One thing to note is that the VAST MAJORITY of posters hated the trade and agree with us, for some reason a small minority like it and are the most vocal about it on here defending it.

The vast majority flipped out when we traded a starting point guard from a contender to a 3rd string point guard from a crap team like Memphis. The vast majority flipped out when we picked a midget point guard and a small PF over Josh McRoberts in 2007. Except how do you know that was the plan? How do you know we weren't going with a championship team by committee a la Pistons? You don't think Gasol couldn't be a Rasheed Wallace? Of course he could. How do you we weren't going to trade Gasol to another team at the end of this season or next in a complex series of maneuvers to land a better player and rebuild around him? I agree. The Lakers should've traded Kobe for draft picks after all those 1st round exits post Shaq's departure. Kobe as the top dog in LA couldn't get into the 2nd round. The Lakers were idiots for trying to continue building around Kobe despite his postseason failures.
Lol really so your comparing the Rockets situation to that of the lakers before the gasol trade. The Lakers had the best player in the NBA at that time we have nothing comparable.
