I was talking about last year. A team of Gasol, Nene, c bud, c lee and lowry is not a legit title contender
Gasol in his prime couldn't win a single playoff game with Memphis, not one. Now he is old what do you think he can do?
THAT'S your argument? Not what he did (or didn't do) with Memphis but what he did in LA? I'd say the man did alright in LA. Spoiler
Lol you don't get it. The point is Gasol didn't win it all as the second best player on his team last year which was also a vastly superior team to the rockets even if we added Nene.Basically saying that even if Morey pulled off his master plan we would still be mediocre
So the plan was to build around a 31 year old guy who failed as the the top dog for half a decade and expect a different result this time? Pass I don't see how his success as Kobe's sidekick gives him much more credit as a #1 option than he had in Memphis.
I didn't like the trade but the logic of bringing up Gasol not winning a title with Kobe last year is well dumb. By that logic trading for LeBron James would be dumb.
Not true Lebron was on horrible team in Cleveland, they got rid of Lebron and they were the worst team in the NBA. Lakers on the other hand were a star studded team
One thing to note is that the VAST MAJORITY of posters hated the trade and agree with us, for some reason a small minority like it and are the most vocal about it on here defending it.
We're not talking about the Lakers, we're talking about the Grizzlies, and they sucked ass when he left. And I'll ask you again. Do you see no potential conflict of interest when the NBA commisioner is also running a NBA team?
It's not a vast majority, and even if it was, who gives a ****? The vast majority flipped out when we traded a starting point guard from a contender to a 3rd string point guard from a crap team like Memphis. The vast majority flipped out when we picked a midget point guard and a small PF over Josh McRoberts in 2007. The vast majority flipped out when we traded a Sixth Man of the Year for some useless scorer who was always injured. I don't give a flying **** what the vast majority of the mouthbreathers on the GARM think.
Except how do you know that was the plan? How do you know we weren't going with a championship team by committee a la Pistons? You don't think Gasol couldn't be a Rasheed Wallace? Of course he could. How do you we weren't going to trade Gasol to another team at the end of this season or next in a complex series of maneuvers to land a better player and rebuild around him? You're doing the equivalent of criticizing a move that costs a chess player a rook this turn because you don't realize that five turns later he will be able to take his opponent's queen. I agree with you that Stern got the better of Morey this time though. This is Morey's FIRST season building a team. You don't understand the lack of flexibility Morey has operated under the last few seasons. And you don't understand what constraints Les is putting on Morey behind closed doors. There are rumors that he is rather heavy-handed in personnel decisions.
I agree. The Lakers should've traded Kobe for draft picks after all those 1st round exits post Shaq's departure. Kobe as the top dog in LA couldn't get into the 2nd round. The Lakers were idiots for trying to continue building around Kobe despite his postseason failures.
Lol really so your comparing the Rockets situation to that of the lakers before the gasol trade. The Lakers had the best player in the NBA at that time we have nothing comparable.
