Hakeem was between 6'9" and 6'10". College and the NBA tend to add about 2 inches to most players' listed heights. The only guy I can remember whose height has intentionally been under-reported is KG. He's listed at 6'11" because he didn't want to get labeled as a center. He's really closer to 7'1" or 7'2".
Maybe, just maybe; one of these "potential" players actually pans out. I've liked what I've seen from Smith, although, it hasn't been very much. Does he get more time in the D-league this season or actually sees minutes with the big club?
Can't wait until the trio of Jeremy Lin, Omar Samhan, and Greg Smith take the Rockets to the promised land!
Last season our starting centers were Yao and Chuck. This season we have Greg Smith and whatshisname. This is not looking good.
I could have sworn I heard something similar when I was little about Hakeem being "superstitious" about being listed at 7'0, and so they similarly listed him at 6'11 instead? Could just be one of those weird things mis-remembered hearing/seeing from youth, however.
