ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein This nostalgic sap is gonna have to see it before I say it. But @CP3-to-@blakegriffin DO have ability to take GP-to-Kemp up a notch. Right?
The GM is not the problem. Morey has seen TMac and Yao destroyed by injuries. He has had multiple very productive trades either sabotaged by the NBA or fall through at the last moment. Since he has become GM he has drafted very well, traded well and signed players to good contracts. He has an owner that will not allow him to completely rebuild.
Whatever. I wasn't even bad mouthing our squad. The mere fact that they have Blake Griffin and we don't puts them in a better position than us for the future. All I was saying. And this Hawks trade is clearly bs. Why would they just give away Josh Smith for peanuts?
I don't support to let him go but I agree Morey has no excuses working for him. It's his job and there had to be plan B - to plan F.
My god how many excuses will we make for this guy? The NBA is about results and he hasn't produced them and their is no getting around that. He drafted well? He has failed to draft one player with star potential. Yes he has found some good players but that doesn't win rings.
surely you can only draft as well as the pick that you have? I think the point is he has drafted well given what he has had to work with. Its not like he has had any high picks so I don't there is any expectation that those picks will be superstars.
Who did he miss on in the draft? You act like being a GM comes with a top 5 draft pick and Chris Paul. I still think your argument is pointless but meh, someone will listen if you pout loud and long enough.
Now we get to see how our team would be if we got a superstar. The clips gave up a bunch of assets and now have a superstar, which is what we tried to do. I honestly think they will be average/mediocre/etc. but we will see. Should be interesting to watch.
Oh, Kwame is still bitter? You see, that's where your post already starts out on a wrong premise. Stern is the commissioner of the NBA. His main goal should be to ensure that every team in the league gets treated fairly and under the same rules, and thereby to create a level playing field that hopefully leads to fair competition and prosperity of the league. By messing with a trade in a dual function as arbiter and market participant at the same time, he acts like a basketball referee that goes and blocks a shot. You might not have heard of the term "Chinese walls" in banking. It's a way to avoid conflict of interest problems. Stern should have appointed someone to make final decisions for trades from the perspective of the Charlotte Hornets - not himself, because he makes final decisions on trades as what is supposed to be an impartial judge. But when he represents one team involved in a trade and at the same time is supposed to be the impartial judge who should have the interests of all involved teams equally in mind, it cannot work. Everyone thought that Dell Demps was the guy who was authorized to make final decisions on trades for the Charlotte Hornets. In fact, the NBA even said as much. The Rockets and the Lakers trusted that statement by NBA officials and moreover kept the league office informed of their trade talks. Stern waited until the names of the players involved were leaked to the public and THEN stepped in and vetoed the trade. Thereby, he caused considerable damage. Stern should step down. It is irrelevant how good of a deal for the Hornets it is now. His main responsibility is to be the NBA commissioner, not the GM of the Hornets. It is laughable how some of the posters here - presumably even Rockets fans - are now on Stern's jock.
It's his job as the Gm to put us in position to have those top 5 picks. Anybody with common sense would of known once Yao went down it was time to rebuild but instead of that Morey was on his usual push to mediocrity
Your a complete Morey fanboy. Their is no arguing with you, no matter what you will defend Morey. Please explain to me why we didn't start rebuilding once Yao went down? Please tell me what Morey is doing to make you excited for this season and upcoming seasons?
The Hornets are owned by the NBA - so every owner of every team has a final say on all Hornets' decisions. On the initial proposal, many owners were against the trade (Cuban/Gilbert were the most vocal), and thus as the spokesperson for the owners who own the Hornets, he said no to the trade. I don't think Stern would interfere in these negotiations if the other owners didn't step in and "ASK" for his interference. You shouldn't have a problem with Stern. He does his job b/c he answers to all the owners in the NBA. You should have a problem with other owners who didn't want Paul to go to the Lakers, which basically was why Stern vetoed the first trade offer. And where is this that says Demps has the final say on everything Hornets? He's the GM, not the owner.
How old are you, kid? I've actually seen Gordon play a bit, but don't think he is better than Martin at this point in time. Of course, he has his age going for him. Like you, I assume. Like Gordon as a player, hopefully you will become a better poster over time. You are the equivalent of a volume shooter. But you are evidently still young, so you can still learn and improve.
1. We didn't rebuild because les wanted to compete while rebuilding at the same time. Tough to do but I say Morey has been able to put out a competitive team while getting young (solid draft picks such as ppat an morris and we have a young pg in lowry and young sfs in twill/bud) 2. Morey puts out competitive teams that hustle and have heart and are fun to watch. Their intensity makes me excited about upcoming seasons. You forget that they are pretty young which means they will be around together for quite a few years if the roster were to remain the same.
