If you had that power, you use it. Again, maybe a bad PR move but now Hornets are younger with potential, a great selling point for potential buyers of the team.

I applaud Stern for what he pulled off.

The Clippers have 4PGs lol! What do you think Billups is thinking right now? And they have Mo Williams with a player option next season... Kind of curious as to what they do with that

Wow, that give a lot for Chris Paul. They are going to regret if the Hornets gets the first draft pick.

If the Clippers make the playoffs and CP3 + Blake Griffin become the much improved Tyson-Paul combination several years back... then I don't see him leaving.

    Still doesn't make it right.

Stern should have done this 3 weeks ago so the Rockets and Lakers didnt waste time and lose key players (Chuck and Odom).

    And the veto was collusion.

This I agree with. As much as we hate Stern for doing what he did to the Rockets with the LA/NO/HOU deal last week, he did get WAY more than what CP3 is worth in this deal.

I must admit that I haven't seen Eric Gordon play much. I guess I was just being a homer.

Bima, why should we do that? Wouldn't that be harmful to our tanking strategy?

If we make a play for him, why not wait until he is a free agent (and start Thabeet until then, to help our draft aspirations ;-))?

What does the veto have to do with the Clips offer? The Clips were told flat out that Paul would only come at a steep price. So they paid it before the Lakers could find a trade partner that would get the Lake show back in the game. Stern did well to play the LA teams against each other.

Note that Stern had nothing to do with the haul the Jazz got for Williams. You guys keep intentionally conflating Stern's role as commissioner and his role overseeing the Hornets as surrogate owner. Owner Stern vetoed that deal and he should fire Demps for doing his job poorly.

I am no David Stern fan, but he did the right thing here. I hope other owners take note on how to run an auction for a star player.

BTW, it pains me to see the worst owner in basketball with all this talent on his team.

This is the perfect deal for the hornets, its not even close. It's not just about Gordon and the Twolves pick. Now the NOH are set up to not be too good this year so they will have two top ten picks and Eric Gordon. If they took Scola, Martin and odom they would be too good and be stuck in the middle much like the rockets. One bad year for the Hornets and they will be right back in the mix. The hornets are now in the situation I wish the rockets were in.

Stern doesn't care about the Rockets.

Actually, no one outside of Houston does.

    :(:(

Clips are gonna regret this. And make no mistake, this does not mean the Clippers are gonna be championship contenders for years to come. Chris Paul+Blake Griffin=alley oops and flashy plays for highlight reels=more money in Sterling's pockets. But Sterling's still Sterling, the Clippers will screw up eventually.

    Wow. Clippers sure are stupid.

Gordon is an all-star on the rise
Aminu was still raw but has upside
Kaman could have been a great trade chip
The Wolves pick will be top 10 this summer

The Clippers caved. They never would have without Stern's heavy-handedness and conflict of interest.

They probably did it because it is "good for the league and other owners" which makes it collusion.

So the league commissioner acknowledges that tanking is a proper strategy, and encourages it?

    Jeff,

Better hold your horses on that until you see if Paul signs there long term. All he has to do is play out another year and then go sign somewheres else and all of a sudden the trade turns to crap and causes teams to go back to not overpaying for superstars without long term commitments. It seems like they found some sort of compromise by getting an extra year commitment out of Paul. That is the novel thing here. Don't know if Stern has established anything long term.

You can't do away with the effect and attraction of a big market. They will always be there.

The way to level the playing field for smaller market teams is to not give the officiating edge to the superstar players like Kobe, Paul, etc. Just call the game like it is supposed to be called. And you will give smaller market teams who have 4 or 5 very good players the same odds of winning a championship as the bigger market teams with 2 or 3 superstars.

No worries. Yeah, Gordon is basically what you would get if you combined Kevin Martin and Courtney Lee into one basketball player. And he's on a rookie deal.

As for Kaman, I think the Rockets (even without Hayes) are just too good to compete for a high lottery pick. I'd much rather make the playoffs (even if it means giving our pick to New Jersey) than get another #13 or #14 pick, especially since we have the NYK pick this year. Given the expected depth of the 2012 draft, Morey may be able to find another quality guy at, say, #20 (with the NYK pick) comparable to whoever he could get at #14. And this team doesn't need TWO more of that caliber of player. One is sufficient.

    Just win, baby! ;)
