The one thing we know is that we don't really know anything about this, and won't. Our side, their side, it will all be lies and posturing.

The old Trojan Horse gag has worked perfectly. Now the real spying begins. The Iranians believe they've captured a drone, but really we needed to get the drone inside their secure area so that our hi-tech recon equipment can really go to work.

I agree. This absolutely has to be an orchestrated incident. Though I'm confident that Obama has absolutely nothing to do with it. To crafty and brilliant for the teleprompter orator extraordinaire to conjure up.

Man, the Iranians must have had a good laugh over that one!

Seriously, when he says he asked for it back, I assume he means he offered a trade. For spies or concessions on sanctions or frozen Iranian assets or something.

I would also have to assume that they were not able to find and destroy the drone in time. That seems too obvious to have been overlooked. Cheney is capitalizing on the Administration's secrecy here.

In related news, the Iranians have asked the US to stop flying drones over their country.

The demonization of Iran lately has just gotten ridiculous.

It was flying over Afganastan and lost control and flew into Iran.

And the Iranian people are awesome.

The Mullah run government is about as ****TY as it can get, if they all dropped dead tomorrow the world would be a better place.

Assuming we couldn't self destruct the thing, any steps to destroy it on Iranian soil would required an act of war.

China and the US have been trying to be friendly. We've been calling Iran the Axis of Evil for years, accusing them of supporting terrorism and of seeking nuclear weapon capability, tightening sanctions on them, voicing support for internal rebellious elements, and we have presidential candidates implying they want to fight a hot war with their country. Even if asking for the drone has a precedent, Iran having the magnanimity to actually return it for free would not.

What, in between the mysterious explosions on American ground, and a cyber-attack on critical infrastructure?

You really believe that the drone ventured far into Iran because someone "lost control" of the drone?

"I hope they all drop dead?!" What kind of a person says crap like that, you sound like a 13 year old teenager. Yes their government is flawed, but lets be honest, there are a large number of countries with shetty governments. How many wars has Iran been involved with where they were the aggressor? Yes they are involved with supporting terror in Afghanistan and Iraq, but lets be honest, if China were to invade Mexico/Canada, the US would be doing the something about it as well.

Magnanimity? it's not really about magananimity and more about actually proving that you have the drone at all - something that's in serious question.

There's basically no use they could make from it once they've analyzed it - and there's very little the US could do about it once they did - why not give it back like China did and behave like a big boy country in terms of being sophisticated? You take it, gather all the intel you can, and then send it back with U MAD? painted on the side. A propaganda coup all around- You prove to the world once and for all that you outfoxed the big bad Americans...what reason can you think of why they wouldn't?
