Superstar center Dwight Howard is calling his shots and the Dallas Mavericks could be involved.

According to a Tuesday report by ESPN.com, Howard is willing to sign a long-term deal with only four possible teams and the Mavs are one of them. Along with his current team, the Orlando Magic, Howard is also willing to sign with the New Jersey Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.

This information is significant because it deters any of the other 26 teams from attempting to make a trade for the three-time NBA Defensive player of the Year. Most likely, a team would not be willing to add Howard if he wasn’t interested in committing long-term.

While Howard could sign an extension with the Magic, he has reportedly become unhappy by the franchise’s failure to add another superstar and improve the team’s chances of winning a championship.

Last Friday, the Magic announced they would allow Howard to talk to the Mavericks, Lakers and Nets about a possible trade.

Cuban needs to write a letter to the David Stern with the concern that the rich in the NBA is only getting richer. That adding a top 5 NBA superstar to the defending NBA champs could only hurt the league and create imbalance and unfairness to all the have-not owners.

Cuban should be disgusted that superstars are dictating their own terms, trying to pair up with each other (Dirk and Dwight Howard and perhaps DWill here) and that Stern needs to step in and put a stop to this. It's just not fair to the league and the fans when one team has all the best players.

I wonder what Cuban would say if Howard signs with the Mavericks since he publicly was against the trade of Chris Paul to Lakers.

I hate Mark Cuban but damn is he a great owner. C'mon Mr. Alexander make the Rockets relevant again.

Cuban is getting it done! I'm really starting to believe the Rockets are viewed as a bad place to go...

is it the way Morey handles his business (assets and all that talk) ?
    is it Leslie Alexander ?
is it maybe how insignificant we have been the last 15 year ?
or just because of our current team ?

Dwight signing in NJ has to be the best-case scenario at this point.

The West is too damn stacked.

This. Les just doesn't seem to care enough to get pissed, when Cuban is playing every dirty trick in book to get players. We have to hope for some Moneyball miracle, while Cuban goes on TV, radio , or internet to kill blockbuster deals which might provide competition to his Mavs. I STILL can't believe some posters on this site ACTUALLY WERE ROOTING FOR THE MAVERICKS LAST YEAR IN THE FINALS! Well that stench we'll smell this season during the Rocket's games this year, is the residual of Cuban pissing all over Les, Morey, and our off-season! I HATE DALLAS!:mad:

Yes. Hoping the Nets don't mind trading the farm even just to rent Dwight for a season. Thats the only way they'll get him THIS season from the Mavs.

Still, Howard can leave there afterward and sign wherever he wants. BROOKLYN needs to make a huge push

This means nothing. It all depends on if the mavs have cap room to outright sign him in the offseason. Now if they're saving the money to make a run at him, thats another story. Only signing an extension with x team means nothing unless I'm the pacers or someone like that.
