And the max player would have been? Unless the Rockets were guaranteed Dwill, CP3, or Howard, they were going to be overpaying someone or the other. And even if we either of those three were available AND wanted to sign with the Rockets, you were still looking a X + Pau combo. I highly doubt either of those three would be looking forward and be excited to play with Pau Gasol. Rockets were going to tie up a huge chunk of their cap space on Gasol who is damaged goods, a soft big man, as seen in playoffs last year. The move that set back Rockets 3 years - Pau Gasol and Cap space for an unknown FA *laugh*. Pathetic.
Sounds like resume material!! Try this... Spoiler One first round playoff series win in last 10 years
Deron Williams will likely end up staying in Brooklyn (especially if they get Dwight Howard). CP3 to Houston? We are already not on his list. Howard is either gonna stay in Orland, or end up in Brooklyn or LA. Lopez - restricted and will be matched anywhere Rose signed an extension. Bynum will be paid the max. He's injury prone too, so no for Morey. He has a $19 million team option that's likely to get picked up. Kaman - Do not want. Gordon, Love, & Westbrook are restricted, and will be matched up to the max. Hibbert is restricted, but Morey could make a run for him. I see a lot of trades going down in the 2012 off season.
What if we clear so much cap space that we can get two max FA? We could offer guys like Paul and Howard to form their own "superfriends" team in Houston.
Morey does not want to pay fair dollar. He treats players like hes playing in a fantasy basketball league. He needs to treat players and other teams management like he is superior to them. M.I.T. does not mean doo doo in the real world. He said for the last 3 years he could not make any big moves until TMAC and Yao contracts were off the books. If Kubiac did not make the playoffs this year he should be fired. So if Morey, not only loses Chuck, the heart of our team, and Battier. He signs players no one else wants. Now we are to wait for 2012. What will be the excuse next year. If he can not sign someone like Jefferson jn a trade, or Dalembert, I think he needs to be fired.
How so? The only supporting cast that could financially accommodate both D-Will and DH12 are the Mavs. I'd understand completely if they went there to play with Dirk. But Brooklyn? Seriously? The role players are worse than the Heat. Lakers? They'd have an aged Kobe, CP3, and Howard with nothing else. ORL? Please! The point is that the Rockets can clear the capspace to make that team happen. But, D-Will/CP3 and DH12 want no part of that team simply because it's in Houston. If that proposed team had the chance to happen in most other towns, everyone outside of Houston would be talking about a possible dyansty.
I agree 100%. But this is where a good owner and good GM come into play. Look at the Dallas Mavericks for example. In the 90's they were the laughing stock of the league. Yes they were able to draft Jason Kidd, Jim Jackson, and Jamal Mashburn but beside those players the Mavericks were considered one of the cesspools in the NBA. Then out of nowhere they get a guy name Dirk via trade on draft night and 2 years later Mark Cuban becomes there owner. How we all feel about Mark Cuban is up for debate but there is no denying his passion. He just goes out there and makes it happen via trade, draft, whatever. This is the reason why so many players want to play in Dallas IMO. It really does not have a lot to do with playing with Dirk either. We have to get back on the preferred list. This is Daryl Morey's and Les Alexander's job. And although I give them an A for effort, results are needed. Nobody cares how much of a great coach Phil Jackson was with the Bulls and the Lakers. If he was hired by another NBA team and did not produce a winning product he is FIRED. When we all go to work every day our bosses don't want to hear excuses of why we could not get our jobs done. You are paid to meet a certain expectation of your job duties. Fail to meet those expectations and you're FIRED. I am not asking for Morey's head. I am only asking for a contender. And if he can't assemble a decent team in a weak Western Conference, where the old Lakers old Spurs and old Maverick's are considered 3 of the top 4 teams in this conference then there is a serious problem here folks. I for one would like to see the team build some chemistry together. How can this team build chemistry when every year half the team is dismantled?
This is the aspect of the Gasol non-trade that has the greatest impact on the Rockets: All players around the league saw that we were ready to trade our two best players for one we thought was greater, and only a year after they signed extensions or were traded for. Imagine the thought process of other players, not just superstars, as they look at Houston as a destination. I have immense respect for Morey, but he's really missing out on the human factor.
Now I'm really confused. I thought everyone was pissed with Morey because he hasn't started rebuilding. Rebuilding doesn't mean signing Dalembert. I frankly don't really care one way or the other if Dalembert comes or not, and would probably prefer him not to in the name of figuring out what we have. Yes, take the honest ones, like New York that attracted Amare! He revitalized their franchise, he loved them........................ And in return they seriously considered dumping him to some loser team to get Chris Paul. That's how you treat human beings.
I've been saying this for 2 yrs at least. All this stuff about houston not being this certain place is bs. Its just guy want to play with other great players. The only way that happens is for houston to trade scola for anything like the lakers did odom. I said they shouldve salary dumped scola to Indy for a lotto protected pick or something awhile back. Low and behold, indy signed david west. If the rockets dump scola and I know deckard won't agree, it serves 2 purposes. 1. The rockets probably have their best young talent their. Patterson,Hill, and maybe even morris can all play the 4 spot. Trading luis gives those guys the minutes they need to develop. Mostly, it gives patterson the minutes he needs to understand and develop. 2. It gives the rockets enough money to get 2 max guys and be surrounded by good young talent. They could host howard and williams or paul together and offer them as much as anyone. Combine that with the young players they would still have under contract or cheaply, its the way to go. If the rockets get the pg and the big man, they could trade lowry and his good contract for players or picks.
