Actually it doesn't say anything other than he needs time to develop and is in great shape. All of those players getting contracts played basketball for a lot longer, Hasheem first picked up a ball at 15 years of age, he needs someone to TEACH him the game, keep it simple and add things as you go, he needs a mentor....someone sitting with him every single day and working with him..... Will it work? Maybe, maybe not.....but to not try would be incredibly stupid, the Rockets should have CD working with him every single day......day after day......or someone like CD...... It is their asset here, and their asses on the line...they got to pay the man might as well coach him up. DD
I don't think anyone has any expectations at all, just maybes at this point.... I don't KNOW if he can develop, I hope he can because we have no other options. The problem here is that some folks want to give up on a guy they know nothing about, he played 2 games for a grand total of 4 minutes last year. And now, he seems to be the current whipping boy for the team, not sure why, he has hardly played, and the irony is that some of the same people are pining for TWill to play - because he has not gotten a shot. Hey at least be consistent....give em both a chance to play and see where they land. DD
The funny thing about Thabeet, i put up videos about a couple of months ago with him defending pretty good against players like Howard, Garnett, Stoudemire and Nowitzki. For some legal reasons, youtube took them down. So he can defend elite centers as was shown. I'm thinking foul trouble was his problem.
Giving Thabeet minutes at all is a stretch at this point...starting him? Mine as well start Samhan lol.
If we tank like you want us to and end up with the 2nd overall pick, and whoever it is ends up sucking as bad as Hasheem for his first two years, will you have the same attitude? DD! He's 7'3" with length and athleticism! He can't even stay on an NBA roster! Not even a rotation, a roster! How do you not question his commitment at all? EDIT: And let's put aside the "he learned the game late" excuse. Amar'e didn't play until High School. Tim Duncan started at 14-15. This isn't baseball.
I'll tell you how. This is his third season coming up. He was traded by Memphis, who even express having regret in doing so. Even they knew he was going to be a project. Was sent to the d-league to continue development( Memphis had two games, d-league team had ten). It was not a punishment. He was sent to the d-league here mainly because of Adelman.
I don't know what I'm suppose to do with him. - Rick The Rockets weren't impressed with his 'development' last year. TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE!! And we are to believe he's magically going to get better now? Nope, don't see it happening.
I'm all for giving Thabeet his fair share of playing time. Provided, of course, he's bringing it in practice and actually EARNING his playing time as opposed to just getting promoted out of sheer desperation/necessity. But honestly, you might as well suggest starting Scola at the point or try to make Martin a post player. It's really that ridiculous to me. Unless McHale is able to work wonders, low expectations is key.
I just hope that's really the case. I mean, what else do you expect him to say? But, yeah, all we can do is hope for the best.
Some players take longer than others to develop and have had better coaching. And we didn't give up a number 2 pick we got him for nothing, a guy we were not even going to sign in the offseaon, an expiring contract. So, what is wrong with hoping he pans out and seeing the sunny side of that equation. People like you have made up your minds already, you would have run Jermaine O'neal off the end of the bench before he got a shot. Look, the guy is being paid by the Rockets, he is not hurting our team or cap room, let's see if he develops into anything. What harm could come from that? DD
With the way McHale's been talking about Jordan Hill, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the opening night starter.
Translation the Rockets did a TERRIBLE job of coaching him up, and just let him be..... The NBDL is not a big man's league it is primarily a wings league, who was down at Rio Grande teaching Hasheem the big mans game? Certainly not Finch, he ran a haphazard offense down there, up and down.....no post ups at all. DD
