Is it a guarantee for college player to succeed in the NBA? Would be interesting to know how many record holders have become good pros.
Jarvis Varnado, Deke and Okafor were just as good, Dream and David Robinson were better, and it's all irrelevant because he can't park his ass in the paint and sit at the bottom of a 2-3 zone in the NBA Maybe, but he hasn't shown it. And if he were capable of that, his career wouldn't be where it is right now. Good centers usually make some kind of immediate impact. The guys who are 'projects'? Well, most of them simply don't pan out...
With that being sad, I think anything can happen to the roster right now. Morey's ass seems to be under a growing fire.
The point is that the guy had a freaking SCOWL on his face every single game at UCONN. He was so freaking intimidating and he played so hard. Remember that team? Out of college he was KNOWN for his confidence and work ethic. We all know he has the instincts to block shots in the NBA. Hell, his rookie PER 36 was at 8.5 PPG/9.9 RPG & 3.6 BPG, and he hasn't really played much since then. Regardless, where is the nasty, ever scowling guy that was drafted?
Listen to the guys calling this game. They tell a different story about his dleague stint. After he makes his 1st shot. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/HRFftJqL2xk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Agreed. It just amazes me that an intelligent 7-3 athlete like Hasheem Thabeet can't be as good as a dumbass like Tyson Chandler or Samuel Dalembert.
You know people grow and die with the environment. Some aspects of being a pro do not suit him and he has problems adjusting. Travelling, the wear and tear of the NBA as a rookie. I had said before I don't really know what is keeping him from tapping his potential. Fact is the org has a time limit until trade deadline or maybe the next draft where it is possible under circumstances if we have picks that we have other valuable assets coming in. It goes full circle.
True that . . . his college game never translated to the speed of the NBA . . . and prob never will !!
I think foul trouble and overall offensive ineptitude will prevent him from being capable of staying on the floor 20+ minuter per game. At this point, we really have no other choice but to find out. But he's really not good guys.
Here's the thing I don't get about the NBA sometimes. Team likes a project. Knows he's a project. Still Drafts Him. Player has potential, but he sucks. Team gives player some playing time for one season. Player doesn't get significantly better. Cuts off playing time, declares him a bust. When you look up project in the dictionary, I bet Hasheem comes up as the 4th definition. That's what he is. Throw him in the fire, over and over again, and see if he never improves. I'm betting that he will. If our team was playing for something, I might understand the whole don't play our young players mentality, but we've done the same song and dance for the past 3 years.
I wouldn't think anything is off the table for this team. Why not? It is not like we are a contender. Time to go full out experimentation.
I think he lost his instincts to play decent bball..... His fundamentals looked ok for stretches but not surprisingly outstanding for a Center. He deserves to get benefit of the doubt
Confidence is lost, he is thinking too much, needs playing time and praise to unleash ThaBeast. The Rockets are not playing for anything this year, it is the time to put him on the floor and let him go..... That is kind of why I hope they also trade Luis and Kmart at some point to free up more PT for younger players as well. DD
I want nothing more than to have this guy break through . . . but he has been so awful - throwing him into the fire right away is just insurance that he will lose confidence and continue to be ThaBust and not ThaBeast . . . Work him in slowly after Coach Mac gets some time with him . . . Might be moot if/when he is Amnesty fodder
