http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/201...t-nobody-cleans-contacts-properly?sc=fb&cc=fp I do half of those things mentioned... scary stuff
You're r****ded if you put any of the stuff mentioned on your contacts. No offense to anyone if you have. Well actually, nvm. Some offense.
"beer, baby oil, Coke, petroleum jelly, lemonade, fruit juice, and butter as oh-so-wrong alternatives to contact lens solution." Are you serious? That is so stupid. I clean my hard contacts everyday. The only thing I do is not follow the three month solution expiration. I finish the whole bottle regardless
I dont know how people can use those alternatives....Just using tap water feels different for me.. Im guilty of using them longer than recommended and i probably should change cases more frequently than i do... and I didnt know I couldnt wear them while showering
The only sin I ever committed was occasionally keeping a case too long. But even when I did, I'd clean the thing out with rubbing alcohol.
Contact lens are not safe. Or at least, they are a convenience that could be done without. I was a contact wearer for about 25 years give or take. I've had those hard lens, I also had the lens that you had to bake at night and switched to disposables. Then something hit me, I said why the hell am I always straining to see out of the good part of the lens, why am I always trying to keep the lens moist. That was the day I switched to glasses and I have never went back since. My doctor at the time told me that I would get tired of glasses, apparently to keep me married to contacts. I was like, "I don't think so, doc." Contacts for me are far too overrated and terrible alternative to glasses.
I honestly feel much better about my terrible contact lens hygiene after reading this. Has anyone ever accidentally used the hydrogen peroxide disinfecting solution instead of saline? Good god that's painful.
You're supposed to let it soak 6 hours! Read the instructions. If you don't let it soak that long, at least rinse them in water first.
What's wrong with keeping the same contact lenses for longer than the recommended time? It's what I do and I only switch when it becomes irritable to my eyes. I'm telling you, the "recommended limit" only exists so they can sell more contacts.
The bottles unfortunately look the same when you first wake up and (obviously) don't have your contacts in
Before, I would disregard many ways in keeping my contacts clean or from preventing infections---and that led to a serious eye infection with a freaking ulcer in my eye. Now, I wash out the solution at least every other day and always wash my hands when Im handling my lenses. Maybe the only wrong doings im guilty of is taking a nap with them on----but showering? I dont see a problem with that, it's not like Im looking up at the shower with my eyes open. btw, my lense are supposed to be disposed of every 2 weeks....HAAA. All I'm gonna say is that 6 pairs have lasted me about a year.
Laser eye surgery is the way to go. Average cost is around $2,000 which isn't that bad since it's a one time thing (normally).
Guilty. I remember the moment. It was at a friend's place in Lubbock around 2002. I had forgotten my own solution and borrowed his. Unbeknownst to me, it was the stinging stuff, something I had not been aware of before. That pain was tuuurrrible!
