That said, I expect Foster and Tate to dominate this game from start to finish as the Panthers are horrid at stopping the run. T.J. Yates should have his best game as a pro as the Panthers also can't defend the pass, but won't get too many pass attempts. The Texans should be able to pressure Newton rushing only 4. Joseph will probably be in man coverage with the other 6 guys playing zone and ready for the run/scramble. I don't expect Carolina to be able to defeat this defense setup easily. Lots of turnover potential.
They were giving up 5.5 yards a carry at the halfway point in the season and it probably hasn't gotten any better. Even a half-assed Chris Johnson got 100+ on that defense. To make it worse Rivera's trying to convert that D into a 34 midseason and is taking away snaps from his best pass rusher. Nothing more sound than staying on the ground. 17-27 for win 11!
Did you miss the the Titans game? Your statement followed by the score doesn't make sense unless you didn't see the Titans game.
i'm a bit worried by the ability of carolina to put up big points as well as Cam making plays out of nothing. The best way to hold their offense is keep them on the sideline. If texans dominate the clock they should win fairly easily. 23 - 13
This game worries me a little. This is one of those games that we would lose in previous years even though we should win, but that time is long gone now. I expect the Texans to get a bit of a scare, but still pull it out in the end. Texans - 31 Panthers - 20
That's my concern about Carolina, too. They can put up some points. Question is whether the Texans can score with them if it becomes a shootout.
Despite Carolina's bad defense, Cam and company can put up a lot of points and in a short amount of time. Run the ball with Foster/Tate and control the clock.
I just don't expect a shoot out. They only have one good WR. Add Joseph, Carolina doesn't have a good WR threat in the game. Without being able to attack Jackson and/or Brice, the safeties and ILBs are going to have their eyes on Cam and RBs trying to sneak out of the backfield. Cam may get some piddly little yards here or there, but his legs should not be a factor. The only way I see the Panthers being able to score a lot is if Smith dominates Joseph causing a safety to provide help or if the Panthers RBs run all over the front seven. BTW...Joseph has made this defense. Without needing safety help, the safety generally gets the TE. Cushing basically can be a rogue destructive force since he is rarely assigned to a man.
Newton throws 3 picks but throws for 300 and runs for 80 Yates has modest 180 yard game 1 touchdown. We win 24-17 and the Rookie of the Year chants for Yates begin .
So everyone is assuming Andre is going to be held out again for this one, right?? I'm gonna guess we're going to see an offensive gameplan very similar to that of last week. Foster and Tate will handle the lion's share of the offense, and the majority of Yates' throws will be off play-actions . I expect Owen Daniels and Joel Dreessen to both have TDs in this one, and I also expect we will be seeing the Namaste. Fun Fact: The only second-half completion Yates made on Sunday that was NOT off a play-action fake was the final play of the game. Texans : 27 Cammmmm: 10
People have been saying this is a trap game for awhile, I don't get it. Is it just because of Cam Newton hype? Panthers suck, we should be able to take this one as long as we play our game and keep it tight.
