You can not be further from the truth. Majority of Clutchfans hate this trade. Despite the fact that it would allow us to have Twin 7 footers to vastly improve our defense without sacrificing offense(Nene and Gasol are both good-to-great offensive players). And they basically point to points and rebounds, as in Gasol is only marginally better in boxscore stats than Scola.

So no, Rockets fans have very little understanding of defense even though they they say it all the time. It's similar to how Rockets fans continously bash Rafer over and over. But when he was traded for a superior player, they brought out the "starter on a playoff team vs backup on a lottery team" nonsense to hate on the trade.

Majority of clutchfans never look beyond points/rebounds/assists and some vague notion of whether a player is a winner or not.

Meh, the trade had nothing to do with Nene, that is pure speculation.

The Majority of Clutchfans just hate players leaving. Fans always look at players like family so when 3 of them are traded for one people tend to overreact and believe that it's too much. Especially for a player like Pau. He was the enemy for so long that people are blinded by hate.

But this board has bashed Morey for years about not getting that star player. You'd think getting ESPN's #11 rated player in the entire NBA would somehow cancel some of that hometown bias towards own players. Gasol's not a superstar, but he easily belongs to 2nd tier.

So true. People would understand if they knew that we have a huge logjam on several positions with tons of unproven talents.

I will say we should not cry for someone who is not here.
Gasol did play like a first tier star for stretches, look at his numbers, he was on the MVP top 10 list for several weeks. Fact remains he is not here so moot point.

my favorite Rockets coach ...a slightly better roster and JVG could have gone to his second championship game.

That would (likely) have been Pau-Nene-Lowry, plus whoever else they might have added. Sorry, but that team has a much better chance at winning 50 than the current group which took a huge defensive hit by losing Hayes.

if the Rockets had landed Gasol and signed Nene, that would be the definition of dominating the paint. If you can control the paint and force the opposition to take outside jump shots, odds are in your favor to win. JVG keepin' it real lol.

I'm not crying, at least not anymore. I'm just pointing out the simple fact that fans(myself included) aren't exactly the most knowlegeable people when it comes to running a sports franchise. And that we generally can't look beyond the surface.

If I do feel any emotion right now, it's dislike of Stern.
