via twitter: @TheRocketGuy Bill Ingram Rockets close to using amnesty clause on Thabeet . . .how stupid is that?? What did they expect from him? They knew he sucked. 5 minutes ago According to Bima, Rockets can open up as much as $13.41M in room by amnesty waiving Thabeet. I wonder who we're making room for.
If this is finally true, then I think we will finally make a concentrated effort on Nene. Paging Codman for Nene info!
Yeah, but no Dwight means the Nets will still suck. Nene wants to compete from what he's been saying. It's why he initially didn't want to play in Denver supposedly. All their players are stuck overseas
If we don't get Nene out of this I am gonna be pissed. It is clear from the videos Clutch has been providing that despite still being pretty raw, Thabeet seems to be improving and Mchale definitely was confident in him. We will see what happens.
Thabeet couldn't even make basic post moves in practice. There was one drill in the video where they asked him to shoulder fake to the right and shoot to his left and he totally froze...IN PRACTICE. Those are BASIC post moves.
Stay classy friends. Thabeet might not be the second coming of Dikembe but he has potential at least to become an NBA player.
$13mil for Nene sounds about right. Considering the scarcity of Bigs nowadays and how pricey they are. If DeAndre's getting over 10mil this early in his career, we have to be happy to get Nene at $13mil.
It's Bill Ingram so take it for what it's worth. But there would seem to be no reason to amnesty Thabeet (or anyone else) unless the team has a signing in hand that requires the extra cap room. There's no need to cut him if they don't know someone is actually agreeing to sign. Remember, with the Marc Gasol pursue, the team did not actually amnesty Thabeet and make an offer, they merely said they intended to do so in order to open up a dialogue with Memphis. So, with a guy like Nene, they can make the offer now without making the amnesty cut and then only make the cut after Nene agrees to sign. Also, even though the Rockets will only have $13 mil by amnestying Thabeet, they can always make a small move (by trading Hill, Flynn or Williams for no salary in return, for example) to open up a few million dollars more in cap room if needed. It's not that complicated to make such a small trade.
Not sure how I feel about this one, I'm 50/50 about giving Thabeet some time to develop. Sure he doesn't offer much in terms of offense but we can definitely try to see if he can at least contribute for a full season before we jump out and try to sign someone who's already 29. Nene won't put us over the hump.. we'll definitely be a player to get into the playoffs but without Jordan Hill, Terrance Williams, Marcus Morris ( or Jonny Flynn) panning out to be effective players we won't do anything but tie up our cap for the next few years.. At least we're gambling though!
