yeah, really the founding fathers were the 1% of the day. who could afford to leave there homes for four months to go talk politics in philly? why do you think they were so secretive about the creation of the document?
Is that some top secret book that us heathens don't know about? Like the Free Masons? Or are you calling the archbishop a liar?
They were secret about the creation because they'd been in a Revolution, and were in unstable times. You can say what you'd like about the founding fathers. They owned slaves which was one of the most horrible crimes against humanity ever. That doesn't mean that they had good ideas, a belief in freedom, and created a solid document. I think the founding fathers knew there were problems. Here's what Thomas Jefferson said about the Constitution. That's exact kind of progressive spirit the founding fathers had that makes the document special.
No he is just wrong and after doing some research found he has many leftist ties. I mean a whole lot of leftist ties. I knew nothing about the guy. The blog below sums him up nicely. BTW, are you starting to come around to being a believer now since you are quoting religious figures? http://politicsofthecrossresurrected.blogspot.com/2011/06/rowan-williams-marxist-subversive.html
The list is hardly conclusive of anything, but I will just point out that being leftist or left leaning in politics isn't any less Christian than being right leaning.
http://politicsofthecrossresurrected.blogspot.com I've met some very good Christians. None of them have tried to turn their religion into politics. Only the ****ing morons do that.
I guess this was wrong too: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.’d” 20“Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.” 21Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!” 24The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it ise to enter the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” -------------------------------------------------------------------- You just have to ask yourself this, are your mindset more like that of the young man or are you more like Jesus? Do you still lack that one thing that makes Jesus love you?
Did being a leftist enthralled by liberation theology make Oscar Romero any less pious? Or any less wrong, when he condemned the Salvadorian government?
What the hell have you guys been doing to this thread while the trade was going on? One thing Occupy is not is a religious issue. This is a good ole American populism, with a nuevo electronic democracy, free information and general transparency of everything thread. It's a brave new world beginning. Take your anachronistic, suck hole, quicksand, deja vu for 2000 years crap somewhere else. Your holding the planet back.
LOL, I now Jesus loves me and I know he loves you too. I know I am going to heaven because I have accepted him as my Lord and Savior, have you? You see the thing about the scripture you quoted is that Jesus was telling the man to WILLINGLY give away his stuff and follow him. He said nothing about Caesar taking it. The general theme of OWS is to force the rich to give more through legislation hence the B. Sanders amendment. Now since you are quoting this scripture and the OWS movement is all about forcing legislation to take from the 1%, are you also saying they should legislate that they give away everything AND FOLLOW JESUS. I find this truly fascinating. I thought most people on the left get really angry with government promoting religion. Neither giving away belongings or having them taken from you will get anyone into heaven. Accepting Jesus is the only way, Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me".
That's actually not what the bible says, but I understand that many churches follow that doctrine. The scripture you quoted is accurate, but at different places in the bible Jesus tells different people different ways to make it to heaven. For instance Jesus tells the man on the cross next to him that he will be there with Jesus after the man simply asked Jesus to remember him when he got to heaven. That story is in Luke. In Mathew Jesus tells his disciples that if they forgive people then God will forgive them, and that if they don't forgive others God won't forgive them. In Luke 19 A tells Jesus that Here and now he gives half his possessions to the poor, and the if he cheated anybody he'll pay back 4 times what he owes. Jesus responds that "Today salvation has come to this house" Then there is Mark 2 where Jesus is inside a house. Some people cut a hole in the roof and lower their paralyzed friend down for Jesus to heal. Jesus tells the paralyzed man that his sins are forgiven. So that man's sins were forgiven because of friend's faith. We see that according to Jesus there are a few ways to be forgiven and enter the kingdom of heaven. One is to ask Jesus remember him, another is to forgive others, another is to give away your riches and vow to make up for cheating other people, and another way is to have friends with strong faith. Those are all directly from the bible and Jesus. Of course there is a common theme among them, and all of them fit in with coming to God through Jesus, but the dogma of accepting Jesus is the only way to get in, isn't exactly accurate according to Jesus and the bible, though in a broader way it all ties back into that. Of course in Timothy it is written that women will be saved through child-bearing. There are other examples of different things as well. It's pretty interesting. We discussed it in another thread earlier, but I don't want to derail this thread to much. So back on topic, isn't it good if the govt. behaves in the moral way that Jesus asks people to do. Of course this isn't asking the govt. to take all what the rich have... not even close. It's asking for those who invest to just pay the same rates as those who do work for their living.
