It be interesting to have a 3 who's effective posting up but can still take it to the rim.

Between him and Motiejuanas, we'll be causing a lot of mismatches.

The timing of this signing seems too suspicious to me to not be related to Marc Gasol. There was always a chance, though extremely slim, that we could talk Memphis into not matching, though the most likely outcome (if he were to join us this season) would have been through a SnT. But with the report that the Grizz say Gasol will be playing in Memphis this year (their offer, Houston's offer, or through QO) and then immediately after hearing that we hear that Morris has signed, it tells me that we're no longer in the race for any high valued free agents.

At this point, if we're going to get better, it'll either be through a trade, or with lower valued free agent signings (Dalembert anyone?).

I take this as a sign that we've given up in the competitive free agent market this offseason. Let's hope that a good trade is somewhere on the horizon.

I think he will be a SF that plays closer to the rim than your typical SF. Posting up and being physical like Melo. I think he will be a good rebounder also. Glad we got him.

I think he should be used at the 3 and the 4.

He can post up which could cause problems for a smaller SF and can shoot the 3 which could cause problems for a bigger PF. He's perfect at SF with Motiejuanas on the floor (who can play C and shoot the 3)

Having a 3 that can post up and rebound is a blessing. Look at Battier, he was very effective when posting up.

Unsigned 1st round picks still count against the cap.

They count against the cap at 100% of the rookie scale, but can be given up to 120% of scale in their contract.

Possibly have a trade lined up to free up money if MGasol or Nene are ready to sign?

Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up. Still does hurt our cap space a bit though.

I wouldn't call his post ups effective. He scored but only because the other teams didn't expect it. I always seemed awkward and uncomfortable.

This. The Rockets had been holding off signing Morris for this reason. This signing likely costs the Rockets approximately $303,880 in cap room. That's not a lot, but the Rockets were hoping to use every available penny to sign Nene.

Also, I highly doubt the timing of this signing has anything to do with Marc Gasol or even any trade (especially since rookies cannot be traded for 30 days after signing their contracts, meaning Morris would have been more tradable--and counted $0 for salary-matching purposes--had he been traded before signing). If anything, this means that Morris will not likely be included in any trade . . . until later in the season.

Odds are this was merely the product of the Rockets not wanting to keep Morris out of camp any longer than he already had been. They had hoped to be done with the Pau trade and to have signed Nene by now. They just couldn't wait any longer to get Morris coached up properly and ready for the season.

His handles are pretty good from video I've seen. He played PG in high school.
