Do you think signing Marc Gasol to 4-years, $55M is a good deal for the Rockets?

Exactly. It does seem Gasol wants out. Owner just assuring griz fans that Gasol will be signed, IMO. If he signs Q0, their doomed. Will be forced to eventually trade him.

Yep - adding QO to the list is a sign. That would probably take Marc's options down to accepting the Griz offer or QO. Either way, time for us to move on...at least until 2012 free agency hits...maybe...

Yeah no point wasting more time. Need to get Nene asap. We can go after Gasol later.

Lets try and remember who started next to Gasol at the 4. Zach Randolph. You know, the dude who averaged 12 boards a game last year. Gortat is playing next to Hakim warrick and Channing Frye.

The QO is essentially a one year deal after which the player becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Its a set amount, for Gasol it is 4.4 million

It goes both ways though, one could say that Gasol has less pressure because teams have to concentrate on Randolph, whereas teams can easily get away with focusing on Gortat.

Why lock the thread now? What do you fellas expect the owner to say? Remember that Griz offer has been sitting since friday. Let's see what type of contract Gasol signs and wait for concrete news first. We knew that this was a shot in the dark from the start since he's RFA but what have we got to lose really? If we don't get him, it was expected. If we somehow do, then awesome.

If he takes the QO and becomes a FA next season they will have to trade him to Houston.

I would rather just sign him next year. Let's deal Martin and Scola for a couple lottery picks, clear up cap room and develop the young depth for Marc Gasol and Dwight Howard to come to Houston next summer.

If Marc tells the management that he wants to sign a Q0, then a S&T would be inevitable. Where he would sign a 4 or 5 yr contract and get traded to us.

What? You think teams were ignoring Gasol, a legit 7-foot center, to box out the smaller Randolph for rebounds? Randolph is just a gifted scorer and rebounder, a perennial 20/10 player playing in a contract year in which he was mentioned for MVP.

It's basically the cap hold. I think he will play for a little over 4 million.

In this case if Memphis is unable to sign him to an extension (which he won't accept) and he does not sign an offer sheet (which he won't do because Memphis would match and he wants out) then he will become an unrestricted FA next summer.

It's basically S&T to Houston or walk away next summer and sign with Houston outright and Memphis gets nothing in return but a pissed off fanbase.
