While I think the author has a point, he also still sounds salty. Although, honestly, most of us probably would be in the same situation.

Still, Dwight has reason to leave since Orlando management is so terrible. Same good reason that Lebron had to leave. Stars stick around when the team management shows competence in putting together a solid team around their franchise player. What Orlando has done the past few seasons is just pitiful. He gave them their chance, and they didn't do much with it.

At least that's how I feel... at the same time, you look back at guys like Hakeem or Ewing who never won a title for their first several years (or at all), sometimes with pretty mediocre teams, and they stuck around.

Being way to hard on him. He needs the one or two in any championship team's one-two punch. He can't do it alone.

At the same time, hope he doesn't go with the super friends idea. Team up with CP3 or D-Will but don't try to go for both. But honestly, I can't blame him too much if he does.

No. He is nowhere near Lebron's popularity.

    Otis Smith happened.

    Worst GM in the league.

And...? Dude's a Free Agent next year. He can do whatever he wants. Main reason he went to the Finals was because he carried them there. He didn't have a Championship team around him.

If Dwight can't win with Jameer Nelson, he can't win with anyone.

Evolution or Devolution, there used to be like only 18 teams in the 70's and less before that. There's just not enough great players for the number of teams out there.

"If you go to L.A. and win championships, you’re just another hired gun; another rent-a-superstar the Lakers have pillaged from another team to help them win their umpteenth title."

Like most superstars who appear good natured and come short of the big prize, the public wants them to be MEANER. Be a fierce LEADER type, to almost tyrannical level like Jordan and Kobe. Because thats whats supposed to get them over the top.

Shaq's excerpt from his book about the '95 Finals, he said he probably came down too hard on Nick Anderson after the missed free throws, but said he was adjusting to being a leader and thought thats what leaders are supposed do to.

Howard probably feels the same. That he had to start getting ASSERTIVELY AGGRESSIVE in how he carries himself to set an example.

I'm sure if Tim Duncan DIDNT win titles early, they'd be saying he's too solemn a person the same way. Not saying either good natured or fierceness is any more EFFECTIVE than the other, just I'm sure that plays a part in the "different" Dwight Howard

By 1980, when Dallas joined the league as an expansion team, there were 23 teams in all. In 1988, the Hornets and Heat made it 25. In 1989, the T-Puppies and the Magic joined, making the league 27 teams, only 3 teams fewer than we have now. The '80's saw tremendous growth in interest in the NBA, with several outstanding players coming into the league (we saw some here in Houston). That interest and growth expanded during the '90's, with that 20 year stretch (1980 through of the end of the '90's), in my opinion, producing the greatest NBA basketball we've ever experienced. While I agree that the growth in the number of teams was excessive, it didn't stop the league from being pretty freakin' good.

I think the problems we see today stem more from the league meddling with the game, than the number of teams. They just can't leave a good thing alone. They keep tinkering with the rules to the point that I sometimes wonder if I'm seeing the same game that I saw in the '80's and '90's.

Players got smart and finally realized that:

    - they have some leverage as they approach free agency
    - there is no need to let incompetent mgmt waste your prime
